12 Pairs of Co-Stars Who Didn’t Get Along With Each Other

Most of the time, Co-Stars from both Movies and Television Shows describe each other as family and/or close. Some even fall in love with each other. However, there are some cases where a pair (or more people) of Co-Stars who don’t get along/can’t stand each other.

In the case of the latter, the tensions between co-stars happen off-camera. The reasons for these tensions vary. Some of these feuds are rumored while others play out right before our own eyes in the media outlets and on social media.

From both Film and Television, here are 12 Pairs of Co-Stars Who Didn’t Get Along With Each Other:

1. Joan Crawford and Bette Davis:

Prior to co-starring in the 1962 film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, the two Oscar-winning Actresses had a longtime (and legendary) existing feud that started when Crawford wed Franchot Tone (her second of eventually four husbands). Tone and Davis co-starred together in the 1935 film Dangerous, the film that earned the latter her first of two Oscars for Best Actress.

On set, Davis fell in love with Tone, who didn’t reciprocate those feelings as he and Crawford announced their engagement during the filming of Dangerous. In an interview years later, Davis said “I have never forgiven [Crawford] for that, and never will,”.

When the two longtime rivals became co-stars on What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, both denied publically that there was a feud between them. However, there was so much tension between the two that there were multiple episodes/incidents that happened during and after filming (Click here to see the infamous incident at The Oscars between the two co-stars).

2. William Shatner and George Takei:

The rivalry/feud between the two Star Trek co-stars is something that both Shatner and Takei have discussed in the media. Shatner has called Takei “Psychotic” and a “Very Disturbed Individual”. Meanwhile, in his 1994 autobiography To The Stars, Takei revealed that he thought his co-star was “self-centered” and “egotistical”.

3. Lucy Liu and Bill Murray:

One of Bill Murray’s most notable feuds with his co-stars is the one he had with Lucy Liu during the production of the 2000 film Charlie’s Angels. At one point during filming, Murray criticized his co-star’s acting abilities, which sent Liu into a rage that resulted in a major altercation on the set. The feud between the two co-stars was so bad that Murray was replaced by Bernie Mac in the 2003 sequel.

4. Teri Hatcher and Marcia Cross:

It is known that Teri Hatcher reportedly didn’t get along with the rest of her Desperate Housewives co-stars. However, tensions were especially extremely high between Hatcher and fellow co-star Marcia Cross.

These tensions were documented in the infamous article that accompanied the cast’s Vanity Fair swimsuit cover in 2005. The article claimed that Cross stormed off the set of the photo shoot after seeing Hatcher being placed in the center of the photo. Cross also shouted expletives at the ABC representative responsible for overseeing the photo shoot (The rep’s main job was to make sure that Hatcher didn’t pick her outfit first or be placed in the center of a group photo).

5. Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf:

Hardy and LaBeouf played brothers in the 2012 Western Lawless. The two co-stars reportedly got into a physical altercation off-camera. Both actors admitted to fighting in interviews. Hardy jokingly told Den of Geek, “He knocked me out sparko. Out cold. He’s a bad, bad boy. He is. He’s quite intimidating as well. He’s a scary dude.” Meanwhile, LaBeouf told Details Magazine that the fight was a “One-off”.

6. Charlie Sheen and Selma Blair:

Charlie Sheen got Selma Blair, one of his co-stars from the TV Series Anger Management (which Sheen also served as an executive producer of). The reason why Blair got axed was that she complained about Sheen’s work ethic. It was reported that the cast and crew of Anger Management often waited hours for Sheen to show up to work. Sheen informed Blair of her termination via a series of profane text messages and even called her the c-word.

7. Debra Winger and Shirley MacLaine:

Debra Winger, who has a notorious reputation of being a difficult actress to work with, didn’t get along with Shirley MacLaine, her co-star in the 1983 film Terms of Endearment. In the film, Winger played the daughter of MacLaine’s character, and both have a complex relationship. During production, the two co-stars even got into a few physical altercations.

The feud worsened between the two at the 56th Academy Awards. The two co-stars were nominated in the Best Actress Category and MacLaine won.

8. Kiefer Sutherland and Freddie Prinze Jr.:

The two actors worked together on Season 8 of 24, a show where the former played the lead character of the series since its first season. The latter joined the main cast of the show during Season 8, which was also the show’s final season.

Prinze Jr. has been open about how much he disliked his entire time on the show and his negative working experience with Sutherland. “Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That’s not me talking trash. I’d say it to his face. I think everyone that’s worked with him has said that,” Prinze Jr. stated. The actor later took a break from acting after his stint on 24, which almost caused him to quit the business.

9. Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio:

In Romeo + Juliet, the 1996 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio portrayed the two star-crossed lovers. While the two co-stars displayed amazing chemistry on-camera, things weren’t the same off-camera.

According to reports, Danes (who was 16 years old during filming) found DiCaprio (who was 22 years old during filming) ‘very immature” and didn’t enjoy his pranking of cast and crew members. Meanwhile, DiCaprio thought that Danes was too “uptight”. There were also rumors that the co-stars didn’t speak to each other at all when the cameras weren’t rolling.

10. Megan Mullally and Debra Messing:

It was recently reported that the two Will & Grace Co-stars don’t get along and that the tensions onset between the two resulted in Mullally taking a temporary leave of absence from the show. This is the reason why Karen Walker (Mullally’s character on the show) won’t appear on two of the eighteen episodes of the show’s final season.

11. Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer:

The two co-stars didn’t get along on set while filming the 2012 film Magic Mike, which Tatum also was an executive producer of. Tensions between the two worsened after Pettyfer failed to pay the rent of his apartment onetime to his landlord, who happened to be a close of his co-star’s. Tatum reportedly sent a very strongly worded email to Pettyfer, which said, “Don’t f–k my friends. You owe money. Pay the f–king money. Don’t be a clown.” The personal issues between the two were the reason why Pettyfer wasn’t invited back for Magic Mike XXL, the 2015 sequel.

12. Will Smith and Janet Hubert:

The feud and relationship between the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Co-Stars was so bad that it led Hubert to leaving the show after Season 3. Aunt Vivian, Hubert’s character on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, was recast and played by Daphne Maxwell Reid for the show’s last three seasons.
