Outfits To Wear To Every Concert

Going to a concert is always a lot of fun. Whether you’re with your friends or your boyfriend, listening to live music, dancing, and sharing a couple of drinks makes for a really fun night. It doesn’t matter where the venue is, what type of music is being played, or what band it is—you’re bound to have a good time as long as the music is good and you’re surrounded by friends. Going to a concert is a great date idea any time of the year, so even though summer is coming to an end, you should still be on the lookout for your favorite band’s tour dates. Once you’ve bought your tickets, arranged a ride, and requested the night off work, it’s time to plan your outfit. But what exactly do you wear to a rock, country, or pop concert?

Ahead are a few tips and tricks to dressing your best for the next concert you attend:

Do Your Research

The first thing to do when planning your outfit for a concert is to do a little research about both the band you’re seeing and the venue the concert is at. If the venue is an outside one, you’re going to want to dress accordingly: jeans and a jacket with boots and maybe even a scarf. But if the concert is inside, then you have a little more freedom with your style. But aside from the weather, you should also do some research about the band or musician you’re seeing. Each genre of music has its own fashion. Rock music is usually associated with leather—as in Dr. Martens and a motorcycle jacket. Country music inspires its listeners to wear cowboy boots and denim. And the list goes on and on. So start with the basics, jeans and a cute blouse. And then, depending on the genre of music you’ll be dancing to all night, choose the right shoes and jacket.

Start With a Band Tee

If you don’t know where to start, choose your favorite band tee and build your outfit from there. A band tee is always an acceptable piece of clothing to wear to a concert because it shows you’re a lover of music here to enjoy it live. Band tees also go with everything—they look cute under a dress, paired with jeans, tucked into a skirt, or even with biker shorts. Graphic tees, in general, are extremely versatile. which means putting an outfit together just got easier. Rocking your favorite band tee to a concert means you’ll be comfy all night, and you know you’ll look totally cute yet casual.

Don’t Be Afraid to Dress Up

What makes concerts so exciting is that they’re not usually something we’re doing every weekend or multiple times a month. Unless you’re a music journalist or work at a venue, going to a concert is probably a once-in-a-while kind of thing. Since that’s the case, you should then view going to a concert as an opportunity to dress up and take advantage of some of the pieces in your wardrobe that you don’t usually wear. Maybe for your job, you always have to be dressed business casual, or—even worse—in a uniform. And for school, your go-to outfit is leggings and a hoodie paired with sneakers and coffee. If that’s your life Monday through Sunday, then use any concert you go to as an opportunity to wear the leather jacket you never get to wear, the fishnet tights you forgot you had, or the leopard-print slip dress you bought six months ago and have yet to wear.

Embrace Color + Print

As stated above, going to a concert is a perfect opportunity to step outside your fashion comfort zone and dress up. If you usually gravitate toward black clothes with little to no visual interest, concerts are a chance for you to bust out the bright colors and printed pieces that are lurking in your closet. Maybe you have a plaid trench you never wear or a baby pink cocktail dress. These aren’t everyday pieces, that’s true. So when you can, you should break them out. Maybe wearing bright colors or funky patterns make you a little anxious. Dressing this way to a concert will boost your confidence, so you won’t think twice about rocking these looks.

Mix & Match

When going to a concert, it’s totally acceptable to mix and match styles. Because there really is no dress code for most concerts, you can dress as funky as you want. Try mixing ultra-feminine lace with heavy combat boots. Or a boho tie-dye dress with a structured blazer. Throw on a French-style beret with a leather jacket. Go above and beyond what’s expected of you and turn the fashion game on its head by wearing whatever you want. After all, that’s what rock and roll did—turned everything upside down. Now you can return the favor.
