For a lot of people, home is a sanctuary. It is where we go to have some down time and relax after a stressful week at school or work. It is important to find someone to live with that you get along with. Having a roommate that doesn’t share his or her half of the chores or keep up with bills or rent is a pain in the ass and something you don’t want to have to deal with in your sanctuary. This open letter to my roommate is sincere and written with love.
We had a lot of the same interests and ended up having similar career goals. The stars aligned perfectly for us to end up as roommates. Coming from opposite ends of California, we both had a desire to move to Los Angeles and pursue careers in entertainment.
Not only do we have similar interests and career goals, but we get along well and are both responsible when it comes to taking care of the apartment, cleaning up after ourselves and staying on top of bills and rent.
We both enjoy spending time alone, so we respect each other’s space. We understand each other on a level that my previous roommates never did. We are both socially awkward and deal with anxiety, so in a way, you are like a sister to me. We have been through a lot together and I wouldn’t want to share the experiences we have had with anyone else.
We have easily worked out a way to divide chores and we know each other well enough that even if we are a bit late on doing them, we know the reasons why and that they will get done as soon as possible. This open letter to my roommate is to show you how much you have meant to me.
We are both responsible when it comes to these matters, so we don’t have to worry about one of us flaking on a bill.
We are each other’s plus one whenever we don’t want to go somewhere alone. We watch a lot of the same shows, so we have plenty to talk about each week after they air. You are my movie buddy when I have no one else to go with. Neither of us are from Los Angeles, so we get to explore the city together. This is a very heartfelt open letter to my roommate.
We both love entertainment and are both bonafide fangirls. We understand each other’s passions and don’t judge one another for them. I appreciate that so much about our relationship.
I don’t know where I would be without you in my life. You have listened to me vent. You have provided helpful advice. You have been there through thick and thin. There are some things in life that are so great, you don’t how you got so lucky. You are one of those things. Everything worked out so perfectly for us to be roommates and I just shake my head sometimes in disbelief because I don’t know how I got so lucky. Thank you for being such a great roommate and thank you for being such a loyal friend. I am so lucky to have you and would no doubt be lost without you.
Sincerely, Lauren
