6 Old School Fashion Trends That Came Back

We know that fashion trends come and go all the time. Here is a list of 6 old school fashion trends that came back.

1. Chunky Shoes

This is definitely  one of the trademark trends of the old school. So many shoes from back in the day followed the trend of chunky, bigger shoes. Current day shoe brands such as Reebok, Nike, and Adidas were known for carrying stylish, bigger style sneakers. Some examples of popular ones from the 90’s include the NikeAirCommandForce, the NikePillar, and the AdidasEQTTorsion. However, as times started to progress fashion moved on to slimmer, less chunkier styles of shoes. Brands such as Vans become really popular for there slim and comfortable skater shoe. This was a major difference from the previous trend of a chunkier style of shoe. The Chunkier style of show has come back yet again better than before. Designer brands such as Balenciaga have made this trend popular not only among celebrities but everyone. Fila is also a brand from the 90’s that has just recently began gaining popularity again specifically for their more affordable style of chunky sneakers. However the chunky shoes trend is not limited just to sneakers but many woman’s sandals now feature a chunky heel/platform style.

2. Mom Jeans

This is a old school trend that has been back for sometime. Believe it or not though, there was anytime when mom jeans were not as popular as they are now. Around 2005, slim fit pants were re-marketed as skinny jeans and were advertised towards woman. Skinny jeans continued to gain more popularity as the year progressed, and even music helped contribute to that. The hip-hop group, New Boyz, released an album called Skinny Jeanz and a Mic in 2009. Not only did that album contribute to the expansion of the skinny jeans trend, but the group was known for rocking that style. They made skinny jeans appear stylish for men too and before we knew it, everyone owned a pair of skinny jeans. However, in recent years we have moved slightly away from skinny jeans and towards the direction of mom jeans. Mom jeans have become one of the trendiest style of jeans to own today. Stores such as American Apparel are known specifically for carrying different styles of mom jeans. Plus, the reappearance of the mom jean has also brought back dad jeans!

3.Fanny Packs

This accessory is one of my personal favorite old school trends that have came back. Fanny pack’s first made their appearance in the fashion scene around the 1980’s. It was initially not the coolest thing to carry around, but thanks to modern day fashion and designers, it has become one of the most spotted trends. Fanny packs now come in all sorts of styles whether it be leather, or metallic. They also can either be worn on the waist or across ones body. This old school trend is favored by both men and woman for its convince and various styles.

4. Fishnet Tights

This is such an edgy yet stylish old school trend that I’m personally, very happy to see back! Fishnet tights can be traced back all the way to the 19th century. In the 90’s, fishnet tights were a trademark of goth fashion. They were the perfect touch to the already daring style of fashion. However, This trend has been through so many eras, and it’s finally made it appearance in modern day fashion. Fishnet tights provide an edgy yet daring look. They can be paired under some ripped boyfriend jeans, skirts, and dresses. They have the ability to change the whole entire look of your outfit.

5. Over-sized Clothing

When many of us think of old school fashion, we automatically think of the over-sized baggy sweat pants with the even bigger jean jacket to match. I can honestly say this is one of the main highlights of 80’s and 90’s fashion. This trend has become popular yet again, with of course, a modern day twists still will obtaining that old school influence. Celebrities such as Billie Eilish have helped contribute to this over-sized clothing trend. She is known specifically for wearing clothing that is about 3x her size. You will hardly ever catch her in anything that is not over-sized. Other celebrities who have also been apart of this trend include Rihanna, Gigi Hadid, Kim Kardashian, and many more. This is probably one of the most followed trends because it i so easy to follow and is very inexpensive. It allows you to get creative in how you pair your over-sized clothing. Even if you are shopping specifically for oversize clothing and can’t seem to find any you can always just buy regularly sized items in a few sizes bigger than your actual size.

6. Bucket Hats

We have seen this trend come and go a couple of times but  i’m happy to say that bucket hats are back yet again!Back in the day, bucket hats became popular through hip-hop artist such as Jay-Z and Nas. Bucket hats were a big part of street wear fashion and it was often paired with over sized clothing. This style really caught on to the mainstream and soon, everyone had bucket hats! The trend died down for a little bit but then came back again during the “Tumblr era”. I refer to this time around the years of 2011-2014 when everyone seeked their fashion inspiration from Tumblr. “Tumblr girls” could often be spotted wearing cute fun bucket hats. Bucket hats were moving from street style to slightly more girly style coming in patterns such as floral. However that phase did not last too long until the tend started dying out again. Today, the trend is back and I sure hope it is here to stay! Celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, Billie Eilish, Rihanna and more other stylish celebrities. Bucket hats have sort of embodied the street wear style yet again, but can also be paired with a dress and would still be cute! This is personally one of my favorite old school trends that have come back again.
