As someone with an extreme sweet tooth, I have spent an embarrassing amount of time on Yelp looking up dessert options and, sadly for my health and wallet, eating at various dessert shops in my area. If you’re from Northern Virginia or plan on visiting anytime soon, then look no further for highly recommended dessert places to try. Here is a list that will definitely satisfy any sugar cravings and even give you some aesthetically pleasing photo-ops at these NOVA dessert places.
Located in Chantilly, Va, Who Seek offers a range of refreshing drinks and unique desserts. With names like “honey butter cube” and “bubble flake” for their drinks, you may be wondering what to expect from their desserts, but they prove to be completely adorable (like their names) and delicious. Not only are the foods themselves highly aesthetic, but the interior of the store itself is beyond pretty and perfect for pictures. This place is worth checking out, even if just to admire the shop layout and decorations.
Being photogenic isn’t by any means a prerequisite for food being tasty, but great presentation certainly doesn’t hurt! Iron Ice is a dessert store in Centreville that sells photo worthy ice cream and “chillers”, or creatively packaged refreshers. Its specialty is the “puffle” – a fluffy warm waffle, with a combination of fun toppings and ice cream. This unique creation allows for a mix of textures and flavors that makes a sugary-satisfying treat! I also would recommend sharing one if you feel like only indulging a little as the servings are of decent size.
As the name implies, this store in Falls Church features – wait for it – chicken and doughnuts. You can order a traditional vanilla glaze doughnut or try out their PB&J and crème brûlée flavors here. On par with these unique flavors, chicken doughnut sandwiches can also be purchased at this place! While fried chicken and doughnuts may seem like an unusual pairing at first, this dessert place successfully took the risk of pairing these strong, savory and sweet elements together for a satiating combination. This is one of the most unique NOVA dessert places.
A trending eatery in Vienna, Magnolia Dessert Bar & Coffee provides both desserts and savory dishes. Following the pattern of amazingly photogenic food, this place has beautifully prepared desserts that will leave your mouth watering. If you’re looking for a more atmospheric sit-down environment, then this is a prime choice. Make sure to check out their Thai-influenced main dishes too for a complete meal all in one spot!
Dolcezza is a great dessert option if you find yourself in the Mosaic shopping center in Fairfax! It is a quaint gelato place that is very easy to find within Mosaic and it hosts a variety of unique and fresh flavors year-round. If you need a caffeine fix, you can grab some gelato and a latte for a quick dessert break. You can also enjoy Dolcezza’s sweets and drinks in the open area at the center of Mosaic or slowly devour them while walking around the other shops!
Siroo has two stores, one in Annandale and one in Centreville. This Korean café not only offers desserts but also has main dishes, such as bibimpap and rice cakes, on its menu. Specifically for desserts, Siroo’s “snow” bingsoos are delicious and, of course, aesthetically pleasing. A “snow” bingsoo is like Korean shaved ice with incredibly soft and thin milk shavings in a bowl along with a combo of toppings that can be shared with others. This refreshing treat literally melts in your mouth and you’ll definitely savor every bite at one of the best NOVA dessert places.
