10 Notable Celebrities Who Have Tested Positive For The Coronavirus

With the Coronavirus spreading across the world, people are taking extra measures and precautions in order to avoid getting the disease. Anyone testing positive for the Coronavirus has to self-quarantine for 14 days. People who have come in close contact with someone testing positive for the Coronavirus have to follow the same self-quarantine guidelines too in order to prevent spreading the disease.

With nearly 3308,724 cases and 14,687 deaths worldwide as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic so far (as of March 22, 2020, the deadline for this article), no one, including celebrities, are immune from the disease. Despite these numbers, the entire world was in for a shock on March 11th when Celebrity Couple Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (see the featured image) released a statement revealing that they tested for positive for the coronavirus.

The actors were the first celebrities to go public with a diagnosis and were recently released from The Gold Coast University Hospital (where they were in isolation) in Australia. Hanks and Wilson will continue to self isolate in a rented home in Australia. The couple were in Australia as Hanks was doing preproduction work on the upcoming Elvis Presley Biopic (production has since been halted). In the film, which will be released in late 2021, the two-time Oscar Winner is set to portray Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Many celebrities and fans sent their support and well-wishes to Hanks and Wilson after the couple announced they tested positive for Coronavirus. Since then, other high profile names who have contracted the Coronavirus have revealed to the public about their diagnoses as well. The celebrities who have publicly revealed that they tested positive for Coronavirus range from actors, singers, professional athletes, politicians and/or their spouses, royal family members, etc.

Besides Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, listed below are 10 Other Notable Celebrities Who Have Tested Positive For The Coronavirus:

1. Rudy Gobert:

Days before Gobert’s positive diagnosis, the French NBA Player, who plays for the Utah Jazz,  jokingly mocked the NBA’s temporary rules requiring media members to keep a 6- to 8-foot distance from players by touching all the microphones and recording devices on the table in front of him before leaving a press conference.

After it was revealed that Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus on March 11, the game between The Utah Jazz and The Oklahoma City Thunder was called off seconds before the scheduled tipoff. Shortly after the Jazz-Thunder Game was called off, the NBA suspended the rest of the 2019-20 season indefinitely.

A short time after the NBA was suspended, Gobert apologized for his careless actions that exposed others to the disease. Since it was announced that Gobert tested positive for the virus, 13 other NBA players and personnel (as of March 22nd) have also tested positive for the coronavirus.

2. Idris Elba:

On March 16th, the British actor posted a video on Twitter confirming that he tested positive for the coronavirus and has been in isolation after being exposed to someone else who had a confirmed case of COVID-19. While Elba was photographed with Sophie Trudeau (see #3 below) at the same event in London that she spoke at, it is unknown if the two cases are connected.

3. Sophie Grégoire Trudeau:

The wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tested positive for the coronavirus on March 12th. Grégoire Trudeau came down with mild flu-like symptoms after speaking at a massive event in London and posed for photos alongside fellow celebrity attendees such as Idris Elba (See #2 Above) and Lewis Hamilton.

The following day, the Canadian Prime Minister (who hasn’t felt any symptoms yet or tested positive for the coronavirus) held a press conference to announce that he would be working from home the next 14 days at Rideau Cottage, where he, Sophie, and their children are currently in quarantine.

4. Charlotte Lawrence:

The singer revealed her coronavirus diagnosis on Saint Patrick’s Day via Instagram. In her post, Lawrence also echoed fellow coronavirus patients’ requests to stay inside, writing: “Think about your parents. Think about your grandparents. Think about someone else getting your loved ones sick because they don’t listen, because they thought they knew better. Because they were selfish.”

5. Olga Kurylenko:

The former Bond Girl announced on Instagram that she tested positive for Coronavirus on March 15. Kurylenko, who played Camille Montes in the 2008 James Bond film Quantum of Solace, posted a photo of her balcony, writing, “Locked up at home after having tested positive for coronavirus,” she captioned a picture of the view from her window. “I’ve actually been ill for almost a week now. Fever and fatigue are my main symptoms. Take care of yourself and do take this seriously!”

Since her announcement, Kurylenko has updated her followers with two more posts on Instagram on her health and encouraged them to “Take care of [themselves] and to take [the coronavirus pandemic] seriously.”

6. Daniele Rugani:

The announcement on March 11 by Juventus that one of its players, Daniele Rugani, had tested positive for the coronavirus made the Italian Defender (who also plays for the Italian National Team) the first player in the Serie A (Italy’s top soccer division) to test positive. In the same statement, Juventus also said they were “currently activating all the isolation procedures required by law, including those who have had contact with him.”

7. Harvey Weinstein:

Out of all the celebrities featured in this article, Harvey Weinstein is the most recent one to have tested positive for the coronavirus. News of his diagnosis came just days after the disgraced movie executive, who was sentenced to 23 years in prison on charges of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape earlier this month, was transferred to the Wende Correctional Facility from New York City’s Rikers Island. Weinstein is reportedly being kept in isolation, along with one other inmate who also tested positive for the coronavirus at Wende.

8. Sean Payton:

The head coach of The New Orleans Saints told ESPN he tested positive for the coronavirus on March 19. As of the time this article was written (March 22nd, 2020), Payton is the first and only person from the NFL world known to have tested positive for the virus.

9. Debi Mazar:

The actress announced her coronavirus diagnosis on Instagram on March 21st. In her post, Mazar stated that started feeling ill on March 15, with intense body pains and a 102.4 degree fever. She also advised her fans to stay at home to “Protect [them]selves & [their] loved ones” and to “Build up their immune systems.”

10. Rachel Matthews:

On March 16, the actress revealed in a series of posts on her Instagram story that she also tested positive for the coronavirus and is currently in quarantine.

Let’s hope all of the celebrities (including those not included in the article) who have tested positive for the coronavirus a speedy recovery! Be sure to send them your well wishes on social media!
