10 Nostalgic Hairstyles That Are Making A Comeback
It seems like the hair trends the past couple have years have been very simple and never changing. There hasn’t been a distinct style like there was in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s. When you think of those decades you can picture clear images of what type of styles were popular during that time.
Lucky for us some of those iconic styles are making a comeback! Keep reading to see all the nostalgic hairstyles making a comeback this year!
1. The Mullet
One of the most iconic hairstyles of the 80’s is making a comeback! This time it’s not only for men, but women are rocking even better! A few years ago if you would’ve asked anyone what they thought of mullets they probably would have laughed and said that it was a mistake. But now it’s becoming an edgy and cool hairstyle.
The thing about a mullet is that you can customize it to look however you want. You can be like Miley and just do a less distinct shaggy look to give yourself an edgy look. However you want to rock it you’ll definitely look like the cool girl at the party.
2. “The Rachel”
Everyone who was anyone in the 90’s knows what “The Rachel” hair was. In case you aren’t familiar it was Jennifer Aniston’s iconic haircut from the TV show Friends. Everyone knew someone in the 90’s that had this haircut and we understand why. It’s gorgeous and unique.
“The Rachel” is a short bob haircut that consists of many short layers and a side bang. Another feature that really completes this look is the streaky chunky highlights. Very 90’s and we are so here for it!
3. The Blowout
Blowout hair will never go out of style but usually people would achieve the look with a round brush and a hairdryer. That’s not the case these days, believe it or not but velcro rollers are making a comeback.
The new trend to achieve this look is to blow dry the hair to the point where it’s just slightly damp and then apply the velcro rollers on all the hair. It gives the same effect as a round brush and a blow dryer with a little more emphasis on the curl at the end.
If you’re a fan of the blowout you should definitely try the velcro roller method and let us know which one you like better!
4. Long Layers
For many people with long hair this has always been a go to. Long layers are flattering and simple. It gives the hair a more cohesive look rather than choppy. If you are someone who loves volume this might not be the best choice of hair for you.
The layers are longer which ultimately means there’s more hair in each layer and they hair is going to be a bit more weighed down. If you like a more sleek flow cohesive look to the hair then this is hair you are going to want to give a try. It’s simple, timeless, and gorgeous.
5. The Pixie
When we say the pixie is coming back you probably pictured a sleek and clean 50’s like pixie. We mean the more edgy, shaggy, messy pixie. Many of the hairstyles that are making a comeback this year are going to be ones that make you look more edgy.
These edgy hairstyles give you the “hot mess” look where you kinda just woke up like this and you look put together but like you didn’t really try. A shaggy pixie is low maintenance and it looks so cool.
6. Feathered Curls
A modern take on one of the most popular and sought after hairstyles of all time “The Farrah Fawcett”. Just like “The Rachel” this was the hairstyle of the 70’s. It’s honestly just so pretty and we were so excited about people trying this out again.
A lot of 70’s influence is coming out in style recently and it makes sense that the hair is coming back as well. Who doesn’t want bouncy voluminous curls? It looks effortless and beautiful, nobody would ever guess the amount of work that it took to get your hair to look that good.
7. Side Bangs
This one’s a classic 90’s and early 2000’s trend. It’s one of those trends that always goes in and out of style. The past couple of years everyone has been wanting to rock a middle part because the side bang fell off trend again. Well it’s back so if you’ve been waiting for it now is your moment.
We’ve been seeing it all over the runway this season and it looks chic with an updo as shown on Bella Hadid and it looks sexy with your hair down.
8. Curtain Bangs
If you still love a middle part then here’s one for you to spice your regular haircut up. Curtain bangs! Also a big 70’s trend, curtain bangs add a little something to a classic middle part. If you’re looking to add some volume to your hair, having these shorts pieces towards the front of your face will do it.
The shorter pieces of hair are lighter and therefore will be more easily to manipulate and give yourself some volume towards the front. You can also wear the curtain bangs straight like Hailey Bieber to give a more shaggy look, or you can curl and tease them for a voluminous 70’s fantasy!
9. Shag Cut
Total rocker vibes coming your way in 2021. Another edgy, cool, unisex cut to spice up this year. It’s messy but put together at the same time. It’s all about looking effortless but still put together. It’s chic and cool, need we say more?
10. Teased Curls
If you want to try something different but you’re not looking to completely stray away from your style try a teased curl look. It’s like a more calm version of 80’s hair. Just curl your hair like you normally would but instead of leaving the curls the way they are, take a brush and tease them out.
It’ll give you a light airy and feathery effect to the hair, but you also won’t be doing anything drastic to it if you aren’t ready to go outside of the box. It could be a good way to introduce yourself to something fun and different.
