10 Non-Tropical Spring Break Destinations

Not a big beach person?  Trying to dodge crowds? Looking for an unique, non-tropical spring break destination? Consider these non-basic spring break destinations for a change!

1. Montreal, Quebec

If you do not have enough money to fly to Europe, go to Montreal instead. This culturally rich city is filled with art museums and gorgeous architecture. Explore the underground city, RÉSO, which is complete with shops and performing arts venues. In regards to the nightlife, the legal age to drink is 18.

2. Reykjavik, Iceland

Are you an anti-beach person? Then, Iceland is your perfect destination for spring break. Enjoy the natural splendor and gorgeous the northern lights. FYI, hotels in Reykjavik go for less than $100 per night.

3. Las Vegas, Nevada

If you happen to be a major partier, no place is better to party at than Las Vegas.

4. Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is one of those places that everyone must visit before they die. Take advantage of your vacation time and plan a trip to Niagara Falls to see all of nature’s beauty.

5. Amsterdam, Netherlands

Explore Amsterdam’s many cultural hotspots such as the Anne Frank House and the Van Gogh Museum. There is also the annual Spring Break Amsterdam Festival which runs over the course of two weekends. Join thousands of people to explore the city during the day and party at night.

6. Nashville, Tennessee

If you are fan of great food and music, then Nashville should be on the top of your list. Plan your day out by stopping at a local coffee shop, and then stop by East Nashville, which is filled with stores and boutiques that accommodate to the taste of both artists and hipsters. Later, enjoy authentic Southern cuisine at one of Nashville’s many restaurants, and then spend the rest of the evening bar hopping and hitting live music venues.

7. The Grand Canyon

This is probably the most peaceful spring break destination. In the same vein as the Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon is a place that everyone must visit. Enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the canyons and take many Instagram-worthy photos.

8. Austin, Texas

Every spring break destination should be filled with adventure, right? In Austin, Texas, you can practically do anything from going to rodeos to zip-lining across Lake Travis. Also during the month of March, there is South by Southwest (SXSW) which is a film and music festival/conference. There is plenty of film screenings to attend and sessions on the latest news and trends in music and technology. Check out this list to learn more about the many, many things you can do in Austin, Texas. Seriously, you can stop by Mayfield Park where they have free roaming peacocks!

9. New Orleans, Louisiana

Looking for a spring break destination that is filled with plenty of great places to eat at? Well you are in luck because the streets of New Orleans are lined with restaurants serving everything, from Creole food to French pastries. And no place is better to bar hop than the ever-so legendary Bourbon Street.

10. Washington, D.C.

If you are an art, culture, and history lover, Washington D.C. is the perfect spring break destination for you. Tour the Smithsonian and attend the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The peak time for cherry blossom trees to bloom is end of March and early April (which luckily coincides with spring break) so it is best to get your camera out!
