Hello and happy New Year! Ok, kinda late—but it’s still very important! As we find ourselves in the beginning of the New Year (January was a free trial month) it is truly necessary to stick with a few resolutions, that will help us spend this year with happiness. Without further ado, here are 10 New Year’s Resolutions that you still need to keep.
Waking up and more importantly getting out of bed, are the hardest part of the day. Believe me I know! That is why you need to get up, go to your mirror and show your best smile. When I first heard about this tip, I did not believe it would work. Honestly, it gives me the courage to get dressed and go to 9 a.m. classes.
It’s not a cliché, it’s a fact. Breakfast is actually the most important meal of the day. I am one of those people who get hangry. Breakfast helps me get the energy I need to start a day full of classes, studying, and possibly partying.
It’s painful and boring to some people. When I get up in the morning and have some free time, I prefer to do some yoga or cardio for about half an hour. Exercising is very important for our health and it really boosts my mood whenever I’m not feeling well. This is the one of the best New Year’s resolutions you need in your routine!
Since we talked about exercising, next on the list is food. I love burgers and ice cream but I decided I cannot keep living on those. Hardest decision of my life, but totally worth it. This does not mean that you only get to eat salads. Nope. Just cook at home even if you are making a pizza. Start by not eating out and you will get to the point where you will crave a stable diet full of fruit, vegetables, fish, and everything your body needs.
I know we’re students and we go to parties, etc. I really like drinking games ad the thrill of going out for the night, but it is really not great for our health. I’m not saying to cut it completely out of your life. You can make a promise to yourself to just drink on the weekends, not every night. Chug a gallon of water on the daily instead because this is the most imporant New Year’s resolutions.
I was always a bookworm, but ever since I started college, reading stopped being a top priority. We should be getting to know aspects of the world that you are yet unaware of. Philosophy, literature, even the subject you are majoring in could take a tiny part of your day to help you find new bits of yourself. Get a taste of the world and learn something new as part of the New Year’s resolutions!
This is the part where you’re convinced that you don’t have any negative, stubborn, or toxic people in your life—but trust me, you do. That friend who always judges your style, a boyfriend/girlfriend who thinks you are always overreacting, or perhaps a cousin who is jealous of your relationship with your parents. It’s mostly the people who are the closest to you. They’re the people you find the hardest to cut ties with, because you might be a push over. You really need to disconnect with the negativity in order to have a calm life, without unnecessary drama.
Every person’s relationship with their parents are different. My advice is to be in touch with them as much as you can, because they will not always be there. Surprise them by visiting when they least expect it. Travel with them and just call them every day. They miss you more than you miss them.
Dare to dream, dare to try new things, and dare to change your life for the best! Most importantly, break your routine. This is the ultimate New Year’s resolutions that you still need to keep track of! Routines are important to many people, but they tend to make us predictable and we miss our need for adventure. It isn’t always bad to bend the rules (e.g. go for a trip and don’t study for a weekend) but don’t overdo it! We don’t want to fail for the semester!
A day, a week, a trip. Planning helps to stay motivated and organized through our busy busy life. Bullet journaling for example brings out our more creative self and at the same time helps to get a glimpse of our future. I think for me it was the resolution that helped me not to freak out during the exam’s period I am currently in.
