Top 8 New Restaurants To Check Out In Toronto

Going into the new year with a bang, there has been a surge of new restaurants opening in Toronto. We’ve narrowed down the list to a few noteworthy mentions all at an average price point. Here are the top 8 new restaurants to check out in Toronto!

1. The Commoner

The Commoner is the new restaurant on the block. Leather couch interiors, muted forest colors and shiny brass details elevate the space. Old pictures and antiques are displayed giving a nice nod to the neighborhood’s historic past. For drinks, be sure to try some local craft beer and for starters you can sample some escargot or duck fat fries. For a main course be sure to try their signature “The Commoner” burger.

2067 Dundas St West

2. Mercado Negro

One of the new restaurants on St. Clair near Joseph J. Piccininni Community Centre is Mercado Negro. Mostly a tapas restaurant, it boasts a menu with mainly Portuguese specialty foods like Alheira pudding or their famous francesinha sandwich. With items at a low price range and at a decent serving portion you can easily come in with a party of three or four and share a plate. Check out their glass case filled with goodies from Portugal and grab a gift!

3. The Annex Food Hall

Next on the list of new restaurants to look out for is the Annex Food Hall. Although not entirely its own restaurant, you will find within it a variety of street food from many different businesses. Expect to find some Thai favorites, fresh pasta, savory tacos and much more. In comparison to other food halls it gives off a cozier atmosphere that is accessible to the community, so when you don’t know what to eat grab a friend and check it out!

370 Bloor St West

4. Seoul Shakers

One of the most aesthetically pleasing new restaurants on the list so far is Seoul Shakers. When you first walk in the warm lighting and ferns hanging from the ceiling will instantly invite you in, but the Korean dishes they serve will make you want to stay. Be sure to try the tempura salted cod or the sashimi salad!

1241 Bloor St West

5. Giulietta

What makes Giulietta one of the new restaurants to look out for is the twist it takes on Italian dining. The restaurant gives off a modern and fresh feel with its white walls and modest seating, which is a far cry from a stuffy and posh white linen dining room. Serving a menu that is meant to be shared, you’ll find classics such as pasta and pizza but also some interestingly new additions, like the seafood fried medley “Fritto misto.”

972 College Street

6. Mira

What once used to be a nightclub is now Peruvian restaurant Mira. One of their main attractions is the open kitchen that will have your mouth watering with the cacophony of smells wafting from it. Check out and try one of their dozen ceviche plates or splurge on “El Huevo Malo” – a chocolate dessert that is sliced open at your table.

8. Tuk Tuk Canteen

Last on the list of the top new restaurants to look out for is the Tuk Tuk Canteen. Influenced by Cambodia and its cultural dishes, you’ll want to order and share your food with a group of friends. Be sure to sit up close and see the chefs prepare it for you in their open kitchen. Sample their cocktail menu and you’ll find a variety of drinks with a dash of Asian influence.
