New Orleans Restaurants Perfect For Mardi Gras

The list of New Orleans restaurants is endless, but which should you avoid for Mardi Gras day and which are the perfect spot? Certain restaurants close so that the managers can join the party outside but others stay open in order to bring the party (and revenue) to them. The following restaurants are the perfect spot for your Mardi Gras munchies.

Cafe Du Monde

If you’re in the French Quarter already, take the opportunity to stop at the famous cafe. I will assure you that it is worth it but prepare for the wait to be outrageous. These Creole donuts are a top priority for early Mardi Gras mornings, as the cafe is open 24 hours a day. While you’re at it, grab a Cafe Au Lait to nurse the hangover you undoubtedly have from the night before.

K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen

This New Orleans restuarant is one of the most sought after in the city because of it’s world famous chef. One Mardi gras Day, however, this restaurant turns into one of the best street food vendors in the city. K-Paul’s sells deliciously fried po-boys, red beans and rice and redfish courtbouillon from its dining room window.

The Quartermaster Deli

The most important characteristic of New Orleans restaurants for Mardi Gras Day is that it’s open 24 hours. This quiet deli serves up comfort food, barbeque, and breakfast meals. The best part about this deli, however, is their delivery service. When you’re getting ready to head out for the parades, have this deli deliver some sandwiches to your door.

Zydecue Bayou Barbecue

Opened for Mardi Gras in 2005, Zydecue is one of the most interesting New Orleans Restaurants. Located just a block or so from Bourbon street, this barbecue place is filled with Louisiana flare instead of your traditional Texas barbecue. They serve up anything from gumbo to full racks of ribs that are relatively inexpensive for the portion size.

Tujague’s Restaurant

Tujague’s is one of the New Orleans restaurants that open for normal hours on Mardi gras day. This is the second-oldest restaurant in New Orleans, so it is the perfect place to take in some of that classic New Orleans spirit. They have separate brunch, lunch and dinner menus, as well as cocktails for every hour, so there is something for everyone in your party to enjoy.

SoBou

If you’re looking for some classic Mardi Gras cocktails, look no further than SoBou! They have a different menu for every time of day and focus primarily on small portions of Louisiana street food. This is the perfect starting restaurant for those of you who plan to drink the day away in the French Quater.

Clover Grill

Another 24 hour Bourbon Street restaurant but this time serving up the best burgers in the French Quarter. This 50’s-style diner is the perfect mid-day stop for paradegoers who want a quick but filling meal. Nothing on the menu is more than $7 so this is the perfect restaurant for those saving their cash for nighttime drinks.

Popeyes

This fast-food chain is not located in the French Quarter, but it’s a New Orleans tradition to have Popeyes fried chicken on Mardi Gras day. If you happen to be staying outside of the Quarter, pick on some Popeyes on your way to the parades. It’s cheap, delicious, and will settle all of the alcohol you’re going to drink later.

There are many New Orleans restaurants that you must try on your visit. Which are you heading to this Mardi Gras season? Comment below!
