10 Nail Trends For Winter

Most people love to make a statement by changing their hair color with the current season. But changing your hair can be very intimidating because once you decide to take the plunge, you now have a new cut or color that you have to live with for at least a few months. If you want an easier, cheaper, and non-committal way to be on trend, try out nail art trends to change up your beauty routine. Nail trends for winter are starting to unfold and here are 10 of them to inspire you for the upcoming cold months.

1. Moon Phase Nails

Moon phase nails are not just perfect for Fall because of the spooky season; they are also perfect for Winter. There are two more full moons of 2018 to witness in November and December, and these nails are the perfect homage to them. This is one of the best nail trends for winter!

2. Jelly Nails

These nails are for the true nail enthusiast. Jelly nails are a sheer coating on your nails, best seen on long nails, that are usually bright colors. Their name comes from their look and color; they are done in bright hues and have the same visual qualities as their food counterpart.

3. Matte Nails

The next time you go to the nail salon and you need inspiration, check out all the different matte nail manicures on Pinterest. There you will find a plethora of elevated manicures. Your typical manicure is made more modern by the addition of a matte topcoat rather than shiny.

4. Chrome/Holo Nails

Chromo and Holo nails are not a new trend but are certainly here to stay for the winter. They are a shiny, contemporary look that you can wear for a night out at the bars, especially on New Year’s Eve.

5. Coffin Nails

The coffin is an elegant shape made for those who love square but want something different than just round edges. The coffin shape really elongates smaller nail beds and adds an element of style to your manicure.

6. Gold Leaf Nails

Gold leaf nails are beautiful and look like you spent a million dollars on your manicure. This is the perfect look for Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, or just about any other day in the winter. A dark or light nail base looks beautiful with this pretty mani.

7. Negative Space Nails

If you love when your nails look like a work of art, try my favorite nail trend for winter, negative space nails. Negative space is the space between and around the subject of an image. So, what “is not” there can be just as effective as what “is” there, especially when doing nail art.

8. ANC/Dip Powder Nails

Dip powder nails are newer to some states and go by different names in each one. There are companies such as Kiara Sky Nails or ANC that are known throughout the nail world. ANC is popular in New York and is a newer manicure service that offers a gel-like base dipped into a nail powder to create a tactile painted nail surface. ANC can be worn for 2-3 weeks without chipping or peeling like a Gel manicure or regular polish manicure. You also have more opportunities for creativity with dip powder manicures because the use of powder allows you or your nail tech to experiment with color integration like ombres and marbling.

9. Geometric Nail Art

If you are really bad at nail art and are too poor to go to a good manicurist, try geometric nail art for your next DIY mani. Using a very fine brush, paint triangles, squares, straight lines, circles, etc. onto your mani to create this on-trend look.

10. Impressionist Nails

If I had to pick a favorite genre of art, it would be impressionism. Its depiction of the movement of an object is beautiful and easy to recreate. Use this painting style when creating flowers on your nails, especially if you have yet to master the perfect painted flower. The quick strokes allow you room to mess up while still maintaining the intention of your painting. Impressionist’s nails are a winter nail trend that will help you stand out for the upcoming season.
