This post-apocalyptic thriller was a hit when it came out on Netflix in 2018. Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock as a mother and guardian of two young children. She protects her family by blindfolding them to the unknown force that terrorizes humanity. Their fearful journey through the desolate neighborhoods, woods, and down a river to a sanctuary is an intense ride all the way through. This must-see end of the world movie is one you simply cannot miss due to its unique and thrilling story.
3. The Wandering Earth
The Wandering Earth is a sci-fi film based on a short story about the sun dying out, and threatening to kill all of mankind. Humanity’s solution to the problem is building giant thrusters to attach to the earth and use them to blast the world into another solar system. However, in the course of the earth’s wandering, the planet is rushing towards a catastrophic end in a collision with Jupiter. A team of rescuers are recruited to save the planet from disaster. This movie follows a small family that faces these dangers together and unites with the rest of the inhabitants of the earth to find hope in times of despair.

These Final Hours is an end of the world movie following a self-absorbed James whose life is turned around by a young girl in need. On his way to a party twelve days before the end of the world, our protagonist is stopped by a little girl named Rose. He finds himself helping her find her father in these chaotic and final times.

This Is The End is a comical twist on the end of the world. A massive housewarming party is thrown at James Franco’s house for a bunch of celebrity friends. In the midst of the drunken mayhem, chaos breaks out everywhere outside of the house. Disaster destroys the Los Angeles party while taking many of the party-goers with it. James, Jay Baruchel, Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson are left in the house to ration their supplies in order to survive the world outside, the cabin fever, and patience between the six friends.

If you are a fan of The Office, watching Steve Carell in Seeking a Friend For The End of The World might give you a little comfort in this end of the world romantic comedy. He is left by himself with only a month to decide what to do during the end times. However, he embarks on a journey with his neighbor Penny to find a previous lover that left a letter for him.

Take Shelter is a film about a family man who slowly seems to be losing his mind over nightmares of disaster that threaten to strip him of the perfect life he has built. He dreams of life-threatening climate changes that send him into a spiral of apocalyptic preparation by borrowing and spending money on an underground shelter to protect his family. He concerns his wife and his community with his actions and even pins his nightmares on a family history of mental illness. The suspense builds masterfully throughout the entirety of this end of the world movie.
8. Retreat
In the film Retreat, a married couple attempts to recover from their first child’s miscarriage by treating themselves to a remote island getaway. They are deprived of their vacation when they are informed about an airborne virus that has taken Europe by surprise. This movie is a must-see, considering the virus that has us all quarantined today and probably the reason you are looking for end of the world movies to watch.

The Road straps us in for a ride with a man and his young son who are desperately trying to survive together in a post-apocalyptic world. Their path to the sea is a long and hard-fought battle as they learn to be weary of everyone they meet. In order to stay alive, they must stick together and keep hope in their hearts for better days.

Zombieland is a film about a geek who meets up with a cowboy on the hunt for the last Twinkie left in this hopeless and apocalyptic world. They form a posse and a set of guidelines to stay alive during their adventure to an amusement park rumored to be a safe haven from the infected. This is a fun and action-packed comedy-thriller that is a must-see.

Sunshine is another apocalyptic film about the sun dying out and leaving the inhabitants of the earth to freeze to death. In order to save Earth, a device is built that must be planted on the sun by a crew of eight people. Their mission to revive the star is interrupted by a beacon sent from an old spaceship that complicates everything they carefully planned out. This end of the world must see is a psychological thriller that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Right at Your Door is a film about a terrorist attack in Los Angeles when bombs go off and an unemployed musician has to seal himself into his home to protect himself from the harmful ashes in the air. He did not have time to find his wife before taping up the entrances to their house so he left clothes and water outside in hopes for her safe return.
