So you’re finally thinking about starting your own blog! (How exciting, cheers my friend.) You’ve been inspired by all these other bloggers living a dreamy lifestyle that clog up your newsfeed. (How are you on vacay every other week; I need answers people.) Well, here are ten tips for starting your own blog!
First and foremost you should be passionate about whatever your topic is going to be the focus of your blog. It should excite you to write about whatever you chose, not terrify you. When someone is passionate about something it shows through their work and determination. That’s what sets aside these top bloggers from the rest. This is one of the most important tips for starting your own blog.
If your thinking about writing a blog that focuses on a variety of things to make you stand out from the rest, I would say stop right there. Although this sounds like a good idea, it’s not the best idea. Here is a quick picture for you, if someone is looking for fashion advice are they going to go to the blog that solely focuses on fashion or the one that focuses on fashion, fitness, and reviews of movies (let that sink). Also, if you’re looking to get that mula, brands like to work with people who have a blog focused on one topic (your landlord thanks you #rentpaid).
This should be a no-brainer, but if you’re looking to start a blog about fitness then one of the first things you should do is check out a few fitness blogs that are successful. Find out what sets them apart from each other, is it their style of writing, their name brand, the way they present their content. Now I’m not saying going ahead and copy someone who’s been a successful blogger but rather be inspired by them, while still remaining true to you.
In whatever field you’re in or whatever it is you chose to do, you can usually find a club or an organization that supports and helps you in achieving whatever it is you want to accomplish. So if your new to the blogging game, find a blogging community, for resources, tips, mentorship, and more. Ask our most resourceful friend Google to help you find one. Here is an example of one: Blog Boss Babe.
If you start your blog, consistency is vital to your success. You’re not going to get far if you post once in a blue moon and go ghost on us every now and then. Like every good relationship, you need be consistent with your community in order to attract more people and keep growing. Actions speak louder than words but consistency speaks the loudest. Create your own schedule & be your own boss.
If you create your blogging website, then you should also create some type of social media for it as well and link those to your site. This helps you get more exposure and connect more with your audience. You’ll be able to reach more people and promote new content everytime you have a new post up. This is one of the key tips for starting your own blog, as you want to get yourself out there and practically everyone uses social media,
Once you feel like you got a good foundation going don’t be afraid to reach out to a top blogger who has a similar blog to yours out there, after all the worst thing they can do is say no or ignore you (but did you die?). Don’t take this personal, just move on to the next. It’s good to collaborate with others for both people involved, you get to pick each other’s brain and maybe even connect with more people.
Do not write ten-page essays nor a two sentence post (ain’t nobody got time for that). We live in a world full of skimmers where one-minute videos thrive and captions go unread. Having a minimum of a 300-word count for your post is ideal, but that doesn’t mean you can never go over or under every once in a while. Be concise and to the point with engaging and fulfilling content.
Starting with your brand name it should be something catchy and easy to remember you know like Nike or a Keenesenseofstyle. The headlines for your posts should also be catchy after all this is the first thing readers see before they decide if they are going to read your article or not, so make sure that headline is memorable (#thristtrap).
