10 Must-Haves For Your Vision Board
So, you’ve decided to make a vision board. Awesome! Vision boards are the perfect way to showcase all of your goals, dreams, and anything else that makes you, well, you! But now, I bet you’re looking for creative ways to bring your vision board to life. Look no further, I’ve listed the top must-haves to make your vision board one of a kind. Scroll down and let’s get started!
1. Personal Photos
Photos are a staple in any vision board! Take a trip down memory lane and print out some of your favorite photos! They can be anything from a breathtaking vacation spot to your beloved pet! Use your photos to inspire and personalize your vision board.
Also, I recommend using a polaroid camera to capture those fun, in-the-moment memories! They print instantly and will look super cute on your vision board!
2. Symbols for Your Goals & Dreams
Vision boards are designed to help you visualize your dreams and goals. So for this must-have, it’s important to think outside of the box. For example, say your goal is to obtain your bachelor’s degree. Then maybe you’d print out a picture of a diploma, and add some glittery stars. Or maybe your goal is to find an internship, so you’d paste a business card you have in your wallet on there.
Remember, the symbol doesn’t have to be on paper either, it can be an actual object too! I’ve use necklaces, gemstones, and even beads to decorate my vision board.
3. Inspirational Quotes & Favorite Words
This is my favorite part of any vision board! Much like photos, the words you choose to bold and center will be the main focus of your vision board.
Use important quotes or your favorite words to give direction to your vision board! The key here is to use empowering words that mean something to you. Maybe these are the lyrics to your favorite song, or maybe they come from a passage in your favorite book. Maybe it’s just one word that really sums up who you are! Get creative and really have fun with it!
4. Stickers
Stickers make everything better! Head down to your local supplies store, or even Amazon, and find some stickers that you can use to decorate your vision board. You can also add any extra hydro flask stickers you may have. Use these stickers to fill in the empty gaps!
5. Colored Cardstock
You can use colored cardstock for pretty much anything.
Use the colored cardstock as the paper where you’ll write down your quotes, or use it as a border around your polaroid photos. You can even cut up the paper into colorful shapes to add some pop to your vision board, or just glue four full pieces of cardstock to the back of your board (as the color background). The possibilities are endless, and it’s always good to have some extra cardstock laying around!
6. Catalog Snippets
Here’s where you can really get creative and add your own touch to your vision board. Much like personal photos, catalog snippets are also a staple to any vision board. Simply pull out your favorite magazine or newspaper article, and cut out the trendy or inspiring images. This can be anything from an athletic-looking girl to a cute dog; it all depends on the catalogs you have! And if you don’t have any, go online to your favorite blog (hint: Society19!) or even places like Pinterest, and print out your favorite images!
7. Ribbons, Fabric, and Jewels
Ribbons, fashionable fabric, and jewels are another great way to make your vision board truly shine! Show off your designer skills and arrange your materials in a way that best describes you! If you’re not too big into bling, choose the more toned-down colored materials, like pastels. You can use these materials to create a border around your vision board. And, if you have another favorite art and crafts supply, use that, too!
8. Clothing Hang Tags
Clothing hang tags might not be the first thing you think of when it comes to building your vision board, but actually, they can be really cute! The next time you go shopping, and before you clip off those hang tags and throw them out, check to see if there is a cute design on them. Maybe the shirt you just bought was made from a company that’s big on recycling, and so on their clothing tag, they showcase a giant green globe. Use it! Or maybe there is a super trendy pink scrawl on the tag. Use that too! You can either directly glue the hang tags on, or you can use those new pastel ribbons you just bought to tie it onto the board.
9. Postcards from Loved Ones
Postcards are the perfect way to add a sentimental touch to your vision board. Gather up all of your old postcards that are tucked away in a box (from your best friends, from your brothers and sisters, and from anyone else you care about) and pull them out! Be sure to tape or pin these to your vision board, as you don’t want to glue the postcard down and forever lose that sweet note written on the back!
And, you don’t just have to use postcards that have been written to you. If you’re out shopping and you see a really cool design or an image on a postcard you like, grab it and use it!
10. Flowers & Leaves
At least for me, when I first started out and made my first vision board, physical objects (let alone flowers) did not even cross my mind to use. But it turns out, a pop of purple lilies or a flash of red maple leaves can really make your vision board glow! Flowers and leaves are also beautiful nature symbols, perfect for any down-to-earth girl out there!
