If you haven’t heard of The Ordinary, prepare to have your mind blown because we’re about to change your skin care routine forever. The Ordinary is a line of skin care products from DECIEM that includes retinol, acids, and hydrating oils. We love The Ordinary because they’re one of the only skin care products that actually work and won’t cost you a fortune. In fact, all of their skin care products are under $20. If that isn’t enough to convince you to try them out, most of their products come in an adorable dropper bottle that will bring out the inner scientist in you. We have curated a list of the must-have skin care products from The Ordinary that you’ll fall in love with!
Don’t let its hard-to-pronounce name intimidate you! This serum promises a lot and it delivers. But first, WTF is in this thing? Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, brightens and reduces the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. Zinc is a mineral that helps control oil production. This serum is supposed to reduce the appearance of blemishes, redness, enlarged pores, uneven tone, and oily skin. While it’s recommended to use this twice a day, I use it once in the morning before I moisturize and I still see results. Since this is a water-based serum, it absorbs into your skin nicely and won’t affect how your makeup looks on top of it. If you could only get one of the skin care products from The Ordinary, this is the one to have.
Squalane is the must-have skin care product for those harsh winter days. Squalane oil is great for hydration and is already naturally produced by your skin. Despite the fact that it’s an oil, it’s non-comedogenic so it won’t clog your pores and is even safe for acne-prone skin. It can also be applied to your hair to add some shine and protect it from damage. I have combination skin and use Squalane in the morning by adding a few drops to my fingers and applying it on my face with my moisturizer. If you have drier skin, I would recommend applying a few drops to your face before using a moisturizer on top. This is also perfect throughout the day when your face is getting dry but you don’t feel like applying moisturizer.
Another hard-to-pronounce gem, Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution is one of the skin care products that you’ll want to keep on your bathroom counter forever. This serum is packed with vitamin C, which is an amazing antioxidant, and will brighten your skin while also reducing any signs of aging. It’s important to note that you shouldn’t mix vitamin C skin care products with the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum. Since I use both of these products, I only use this one at night before my moisturizer. You’ll (vitamin) C the results with this in no time!
What makes this toner a must-have skin care product is that it also doubles as an exfoliator! Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the surface of the skin. This solution is also formulated with Tasmanian Pepperberry, which is a botanical extract that will reduce the irritation associated with acid use. It also contains aloe vera and ginseng which will also help with soothing and has radiance-boosting benefits. Since this is an acid, it shouldn’t be used on sensitive or peeling skin. While we are huge advocates of always using sunscreen, it’s extremely recommended if you’ll be using this product! Your skin now and in the future will thank you.
