With everything going on in the world right now, we are all stuck inside waiting for the days to go by. Watching movies have become one of our favourite ways to pass time. However, there are only so many movies you can indulge in. Therefore, we decided to make a list of movies that will be coming out (hopefully!) later this year that you can get excited for.
Christopher Nolan’s next project is a science fiction action thriller named “Tenet”. Tenet tells the story of a secret agent who is tasked with preventing World War III through time travel. Not much is known about the movie but Nolan’s movies are usually incredibly done and judging by the trailer, it seems like Tenet is going to exceed all expectations! It stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh. It is scheduled to be released on July 17, 2020.
The long awaited live action adaptation of Mulan is going to hit the theatres on July 24, 2020. The movie is based on the Chinese folklore “The Ballad of Mulan”. While the plot remains almost the same, there have been some changes made in the new adaptation. Captain Li Shang, Mushu and Shan Yu have been removed and will be replaced by other characters. Disney is known for exceeding people’s expectations with their movies and we can’t wait to watch Mulan!
Spongebob fans, rise for the moment you’ve been waiting for! In this computer-animated action comedy movie, Spongebob and Patrick set on a rescue mission to save Gary the Snail, who has been “snailnapped” fro Poseidon. The duo travels to the Lost City of Atlantic City and delves into the origin of Spongebob and Gary’s meeting when they were both young children. The movie is expected to release on August 7, 2020.
Wonder Woman returns to the big screen after a successful run at the box office in 2017. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the sequel follows Diana in 1984 when she comes into conflict with two enemies. She reunites with her love interest Steve Trevor as well. Maybe he didn’t die in the last movie after all. If everything goes well, you can find out what happens in theatres on August 14, 2020.
The sequel to 2016’s A Quiet Place was originally supposed to be released in March 2020. However, the release was pushed back to September 4, 2020. Not much is known about the movie’s plot other than that it follows the Abbott family after the deadly attack at their home. The family must continue to fight for survival without their father, Lee. The Abbotts quickly find out that there are other other creatures that lurk within the shadows of the outside world. The movie stars Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe and John Krasinski.
The French Dispatch is a comedy drama film written and directed by Wes Anderson coming out on October 16, 2020. Starring an ensemble cast of Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Léa Seydoux and more, this film centres on three storylines and tells the story of a collection of tales published in The French Dispatch, a French newspaper inspired by The New Yorker. With a stellar cast and Anderson’s usual charm in storytelling, we cannot wait to get tickets for this film!
Black Widow fans have been waiting for this movie since the introduction of the character in the MCU. Maybe we can wait a little longer. Originally scheduled to be released in May, this movie was pushed back to November 6, 2020. The story follows Natasha Romanoff after the events of Captain America: Civil War where she finds herself having to confront her history before the formation of the Avengers. Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Rachel Weisz.
007 is coming back for the twenty-fifth (yes, you’ve read that right!) instalment in the James Bond series. The plot follows five years after James Bond has retired, when he is approached by his friend Felix Leiter who enlists his help in searching for a missing scientist. This mission takes Bond on a journey that confronts him with a danger the world has never seen before. Daniel Craig returns as James Bond along with Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux , Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas, Jeffrey Wright and Ralph Fiennes in this movie which releases on 12 November, 2020 in the UK and on 25 November, 2020 in the US.
Directed by Shawn Levy, this upcoming science fiction action comedy movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery and Taika Waititi. The plot follows Guy, a non-player character working as a bank teller in an open world video game Free City. When programmers Milly and Keys develop a code, Guy becomes aware of himself as a character of the game and sets to make himself the hero of the video game. Free Guy is scheduled to be released on December 11, 2020.
Based on the science fiction novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, Dune is the first of a two-part series directed by Denis Villeneuve. It is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2020. When Duke Leto Atreides accepts stewardship of planet Arrakis, he knows it is a trap set up by his enemies. Nevertheless, he takes his concubine Lady Jessica, son Paul and his advisors to Arrakis. However, a betrayal sets Lady Jessica and Paul into the hands of the Fremen, natives of Arrakis. With a stellar cast of Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Zendaya and Jason Momoa, Dune is for sure a movie to look forward to.
