You and your girlfriends are ready. The wine has been distributed. You’re all perched around the couch wrapped up in fuzzy blankets. It’s time to put on a movie. Sure, you could watch Sex and the City for the millionth time, but where’s the fun in that? (I assure you there’s a lot of fun in that, but for the sake of the article, play along with me!) SATC has everything that chick flicks need: strong female friendship, love, humor, a beautiful setting and a magnificent wardrobe. But what it lacks is the excitement of a new movie! So, for everyone who’s watched Sex and the City one too many times, here are 15 movies like Sex and the City to give yourself a rest!
Hahaha! You thought you could escape!? Think again! There are no movies like Sex and the City like the second one! While the first movie is far better than the sequel, Sex and the City 2 is still pretty good. I mean, Aidan makes a return in Dubai of all places!! If you need to move past the first movie, the only logical thing to do is to go to the second!
If your favorite thing about Sex and The City is the fashion, then here you go! This movie is all about the crazy world of fashion. With a cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, this movie is a must see at your next GNI.
Here’s one of those movies with a bunch of different stories that somehow come together in the end. It has everything from cheating douche bags to finding love on the internet to friendships that turn into more. Plus, you might get some good dating advice in the process of watching this movie!
As a young woman watching Sex and the City, some of the problems that the characters face aren’t really that relatable. I mean, I don’t have to worry about menopause or marriage for quite some time. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants offers a much more relatable look at friendship for a younger audience while still being completely entertaining!
One of the most inspirational parts of the first Sex and the City movie was watching Carrie build herself back up after her failed wedding. While Liz (Julia Roberts) goes about it in a totally different way than Carrie did, Eat Pray Love is still one of the best movies about a woman finding herself after heartbreak.
There’s nothing more meaningful than friendship. Frances Ha fits in the category of movies like Sex and the City because they’re both love stories to female friends all over the world. Because who else can you get wine drunk with on a Monday and then get brunch the next morning with?
Even though the SATC cast are all sophisticated New York City ladies, they can get down and dirty when they need to. Well, so can Melanie (Reese Witherspoon) in this movie!
Here’s another one of those great movies like Sex and the City for anyone who loves to see extraordinary costumes in a movie. Plus, there’s a love story too!
This is seriously one of the funniest movies ever! Watching these crazy women struggle to make Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) wedding the best possible is so relatable to anyone who is ultra competitive when it comes to your best friend.
If you love dramatic love stories–which I’m sure you do if you love Carrie–-then this movie is a great pick. Watch Andie (Kate Hudson) and Ben (Matthew McConaughey) fall for each other all while trying to make the other one hate them! Plus, that yellow dress is to die for!
This movie about a high schooler who accidentally gets pregnant surprisingly has a good mix of humor, romance, hope as well as a little sadness. Plus, the most surprising relationship blooms between Juno (Ellen Page) and Vanessa (Jennifer Garner) which goes to show how important it is for ladies to have each other’s backs.
No one wants to be a bridesmaid. The ladies in Sex and the City cringe at the thought of having to wear matching gowns no matter whose wedding it is. Just imagine their reaction if they had to do it 27 times!
I guess guys and girls really can’t just be friends. This movie has all the ups and downs of two friends that fall in love with each other over time, all set in the best city in the world – New York.
This movie has everything: NYC, Audrey Hepburn, love as well as some incredibly comedic scenes that’ll make you laugh your pants off!
Baby (Jennifer Grey) and Johnny (Patrick Swayze) had almost as many roadblocks in their way to love as Carrie. But just like any good love story, their feelings reigned supreme and they lived happily ever after (at least for the rest of the summer).
