Going to the movies is always a fun experience, especially when you’re with your loved ones. However, the movies can become quite expensive very fast. Tickets alone are anywhere between $10-$15 and snacks and a drink can cost you another $10 or more. To help save some money, try and bring along your own snacks so you don’t empty your bank account on one trip to the movies.
Here’s a list of movie snacks that you can bring from home to save a little extra cash.
Popcorn is a staple to every movie going experience, but it can be a bit pricey. Avoid getting stale, burnt, and expensive popcorn by making a bag at home right before you leave and bringing it in a small baggie or container to enjoy. You won’t have to commit to sharing a big bag of popcorn that most often goes to waste by the end of the movie. If you have extra time before the movie, you could make a salty sweet kettle corn to bring along with you, or other unique flavors like marshmallow or peanut butter popcorns.
Trail mix is a light, tasty snack to throw together before you head out to the movies. Play around with all types of recipes and ingredients; add in some candy if your sweet tooth is taking over, or keep on the healthier side with nuts and dried fruits. Trail mix is such a wildly diverse snack, and you can put in whatever ingredients you’re craving at the time. You won’t be sorry that you brought along this salty sweet snack, and you will save yourself some money too.
Dry cereal is another great snack to bring along with you to the movies. Try to bring along cereals that won’t crumble and make too much of a mess; for example, bring along Cheerios or Lucky Charms because they hold their shape and don’t cause too much noise when you chew on them. You’ll have enough to snack on throughout the movie, so you’re not tempted to buy that bag of popcorn for $5 or more.
Crackers are another easy snack to bring to the movies if you have them laying around at home. Again, try not to bring crackers that will leave crumbs all over your seat and the floor. Save yourself from the temptation of buying this expensively delicious movie nachos, and instead bring your favorite cheesy cracker. You could also bring along a small container of hummus to dip your crackers in, or maybe a few slices of sharp cheddar cheese.
If you want to refrain from the not-so-healthy movie snacks, you can bring along a small bag of fruits of vegetables with you to snack on throughout the movie. Keep it simple and bring foods that don’t have pits or skins that you’ll have to dispose of. Blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, grapes, cherry tomatoes, cut up strawberries, and apple slices are a few examples of easy healthy snacks that won’t cause a mess.
Cookies are another great sweet treat to bring from home next movie night. Store bought or freshly made, cookies are an undeniably wonderful snack to have. It would be a cheaper alternative to buying a few boxes or bags of candy at the snack counter, and you can bring whatever kinds of cookies you wanted or had at home. The possibilities are endless.
