Whether you’re on a family vacation or just haven’t been feeling as motivated as usual, staying active and positive in doing so can be tough. Trust me, I’ve been there. So, here are a couple of motivation tricks and tips to stay active, no matter what mindset or atmosphere you’re in.
If you have certain goals of becoming the healthiest version of yourself, it is best to start in one place rather than try to achieve all your goals at once. For example, taking the stairs instead of using the elevator or cooking your own food instead of ordering out. They are simple yet effective and realistic in the sense that they will start to help you get in the routine of staying consistent. Consistency is key, after all. Slowly but surely, you will start to achieve those long-term goals of yours.
Mental health is just as important as physical health. Stress can take a toll on not only our bodies but our minds, so it is important to take some time to yourself to give your mind a break. Do something that you love. Personally, I enjoy listening to music, going for a walk, or reading. Meditation is a great way to clear your thoughts, even if you only meditate for 3 minutes. It goes a long way.
You don’t have to be in this alone! Having a group of loved ones around you that practice and give off positive vibes is everything. You can stay on track with your goals and even have friends join you in staying active, whether it be going to the beach together or completing a workout that involves a partner.
Patience is a virtue. Like the first motivation trick mentioned, it is best to start simple but to at least start somewhere. In doing this, remember to be patient with yourself. It’s never good to overwork yourself or overdo things just because you feel that is the only way you’ll see results in your health and staying active. You can be strict with yourself and still be patient. Know that it is okay to give yourself a break if you really need one, but to get back on track once you feel ready to again.
This can be done in a whole lot of different ways! Besides, who said staying active had to be hard or boring? You can spice staying active up by doing things like dancing, rollerblading, indoor rock climbing, swimming, yoga, there are a bunch of endless things to pick and choose from. For me, I enjoy cycling classes and Zumba. Always keep an open mind because trying new things can be exciting!
This is one of my favorite motivation tricks to follow! Create a photo album on your phone full of motivational quotes and photos that will help you stay on track. These photos could be of healthy foods and recipes to try, body inspiration, or just sayings and tips. This is a simple tool that can help you make smarter decisions when it comes to your health.
Food is fuel. One thing that keeps me active is making sure I’m eating foods that will give me the energy I need to perform all of my daily tasks. Motivation tricks like these might sound straightforward, but if you’re not consistent with them, it can be easy to slip up or fall out of a routine. If you find that this is typically the case for you, it might help to plan your meals ahead of time. Something that goes a long way for me is making sure that I keep healthy snacks in my kitchen pantry instead of unhealthy ones. Have fun with your food too! There’s a bunch of healthy snack combinations out there that will taste as amazing as they’ll make you feel.
I just recently began listening to podcasts and the number of benefits they reap is great! You have your health and fitness podcasts, your motivational podcasts, your inspirational podcasts, boy…there’s so many out there! They can give you the perfect boost to stay on top of your stuff, stay accountable and keep it moving. Here is a list full of great motivational podcasts you can listen to on the go or while you’re working out.
Every now and then, write down things you’ve done for yourself that you’re proud of and why. Another way you can track your progress is to take photos. For example, if you’re on a weight loss journey or looking to tone your body, take photos at the beginning of your lifestyle change so that you can have those to look back on. Such motivation tricks go a long way in practicing consistency.
I can’t stress this one enough. Rewarding yourself is so important! Whether you achieve a couple of your goals or just one, take a step back to take note of the significance of the goal you just achieved. Be proud of yourself.
There are a ton of ways you can reward yourself. Go out to eat with friends, spend time doing something you’re passionate about, take a nap, start a bubble bath, go shopping, do whatever makes YOU happy. No matter what, keep it pushing.
