Most Thrilling Sci-Fi Netflix Shows to Binge

If you’re looking for an incredibly thrilling sci-fi show to binge, Netflix is a great place to start! Netflix has some exceptional sci-fi shows for you to sink your teeth into. From the popular, colorful Stranger Things to the eerie, disturbing Black Mirror, the following Netflix sci-fi shows will delve into worlds beyond your imagination, explore crazy technological advances, and leave you questioning the morality of human beings.

Here are some of the most exciting sci-fi Netflix shows you won’t be able to stop watching!

Stranger Things

With three seasons already released, a fourth in the works, and millions upon millions of views, Stranger Things is one of the most (if not the most) popular original sci-fi shows on the entire streaming service. Also, each new season is better than the last.

Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana during the 1980s, Stranger Things begins with the mysterious disappearance of a young boy named Will Byers. His mother Joyce, with help from the local police chief Jim Hopper, leads a desperate search to find him. Plenty of supernatural eeriness ensues, government secrets are uncovered, and Will’s three friends discover a young escapee with mysterious powers.

Sense8

The captivating and arguably underrated Sense8 follows the strange psychic connection between eight strangers from completely different walks of life. Sense8 is beloved by fans for its gripping and relatable characters, and for its story that is dazzling, thrilling, and a little perplexing. This exciting show is the perfect series to binge-watch on a lazy day.

3%

The Netflix original series 3% is a character-driven dystopian thriller (with three seasons to date.) The show begins with a group of 20-year-olds who are faced with a selection ritual allowing a small portion of them to be elevated from their ruined world to a land of luxury (called the Offshore.)

Although the premise may be cliché, the plot twists are shocking and the way the story unfolds will keep you on the edge of your seat. Also, 3% was met with high praise from both critics and viewers.

Raising Dion

Netflix’s Raising Dion may be more superhero than sci-fi, but either way, it’s an incredibly riveting series. It’s also suitable for a younger audience, which makes it a great show to binge with your family!

Follow Nicole Warren, a widowed single mom, who discovers that her son, Dion, has supernatural abilities and has to navigate raising him while keeping him safe. This original Netflix show has twists that will keep you on your toes throughout all nine episodes of its debut season. (Raising Dion has also been renewed for a second season!)

Altered Carbon

Altered Carbon explores a future where a person’s mind, soul, and consciousness can be transferred from one body to another. The Netflix original aired its first season back in 2018 and Season two came out earlier this year!

The story begins with the title character Takeshi Kovacs, the only surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, waking up in a new body after 250 years of hibernation. The wealthy and influential Laurens Bancrofts, who was recently killed, hires Kovacs to investigate his possible murder.

The 100

With six seasons released and the final season currently airing, The 100 has attracted a dedicated fan following over its seven-year run. The masterful second season is worth the watch alone. Throughout the series, The 100 deconstructs a myriad of complex themes, including moral ambiguity, intention versus outcome, and the idea of ‘breaking the cycle and doing better.’

Loosely based on a series of novels by Kass Morgan, the 100, set 99 years after the Earth was destroyed by a nuclear disaster, begins with the (supposed) last of the human race, who are residing in space, sending 100 (hence its name) juvenile delinquents back to the ground.

Black Mirror

Black Mirror is an anthology (rather than a series,) but it is still thrilling enough to binge regardless. From stories about the dangers of social media to real-life video games, each episode centers around a piece of technology that yields disturbing consequences. Some episodes are better than others, and many of them will leave your mind swirling for days.

Dark

Set in the fictional town of Winden in southern Germany, Dark explores the aftermath of two young children’s mysterious disappearances. Four estranged families are brought together as they search the missing children, and slowly their dark pasts are revealed.

Dark spans multiple time periods, delving into the years of 2019, 1986, and 1953 in season one, and expands to include even more years in the following two seasons.

Love, Death + Robots

Love, Death + Robots, an animated anthology web series for adults, has an 18-episode first season currently released on Netflix. The episodes, each under 20 minutes long, all contain at least one of the title elements: love, death, and robots. The show is a wild ride that is often obscene and quite graphic (so proceed with caution.)

The OA

After going missing nearly seven years prior, a young once-blind woman named Prairie Johnson turns up out of the blue with scars on her back and renewed vision. Calling herself the ‘OA’ (original angel), Prairie gathers a group of four strangers for a secret mission. The mysterious sci-fi drama will have you entranced from beginning to end.

This original Netflix series, with a strong and dedicated fan following, has two seasons released on the platform.

Lost in Space

Lost in Space is an adaptation of the original 1965 TV series Lost in Space (which was a reimagining of the 1812 novel The Swiss Family Robinson). The show currently has two seasons on Netflix and is renewed for a third and final season.

Lost in Space begins after an impact event threatens human existence. The Robinson family is chosen for a colonization mission to the Alpha Centauri star system. However, they crash land on a different planet before they reach their destination and are suddenly thrust into a strange new world where they must fight to survive.
