Did you know the first 10 minutes after waking up in the morning are the most influential minutes of your whole day? Crazy right? If you choose to be lazy, then you’ll likely feel sluggish during the day if you wake up energetic and ready to go then chances are you’ll have bursts of energy all day long. How you choose to spend those 10 minutes will control the entire motion of your day so it’s really important to have a mindful routine and rituals in place to make sure your mind and body are happy, healthy and energetic from the early moments of the day.
DON’T DO IT! I know it’s so hard, especially in the middle of winter when it’s still dark out in the morning, but trust me, do not kick snooze! Help yourself get up by choosing a time to wake up and sticking with it, tell yourself that the snooze button is not even close to being an option. Once you choose to hit that snooze button, it might not seem like it but the whole course of your day is now delayed by a whole 9 snooze minutes. Sounds dramatic right? Think about it, if you have to leave at 8 and your alarm goes off at 7, clicking snooze delays your wake up which means rushing around to get ready, eat breakfast, and getting where you need to be on time, resulting in an already frazzled, flustered morning.
One of the healthiest things you can practice in the morning is the stretch. Any which way your body needs to move, do it. Stretching has an incredible amount of health benefits, including muscle and joint flexibility, stress relief, and improved circulation. Basically, what that means is, if you stretch each morning you allow your body to open up and feel less stiff, resulting in a more active day.
Nearly 60% of the human body is made up of strictly water and after spending a whole night long without a drop of hydration, the body becomes parched and desperately needs water to properly function at the best of its ability. Do your body a favor and hydrate each and every morning, you’ll be amazed by how much better you will feel.
Haven’t you ever heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Well, whoever said that was not joking around. Eating breakfast when you first wake up kick starts your metabolism which helps you burn calories throughout the day. By not allowing your body to nourish itself bright and early, you are actually causing your body to store more fat, feel much lazier and less efficient throughout the day.
Take a few minutes during your morning to think about what you have to do today and don’t get frustrated. Plan everything out, especially if you have a busy day ahead of you. By planning out your daily tasks, you allow yourself to be much more efficient and might be able to plan yourself a little break or two to take a minute to yourself.
Do yourself a huge favor and turn off your phone notifications throughout the night. Waking up to a long list of notifications does not allow you to take a much needed moment or two in the morning to yourself. Allow your mind at least five to ten minutes where you can just take a few deep breathes and think about you. Focusing on yourself for a few minutes is really important to ensure a good, stress-free day.
Whenever you decide to pick up your phone, a magazine, newspaper or book, make sure that whatever it is you are reading is positive and encouraging. When you wake up in the morning, it’s important to tell yourself that you will have a good day, that you are good enough, pretty enough, smart enough or just flat out enough, you need to make sure that you will smile today and be happy and nothing destroys that mood more than consuming negative media. Be sure that whatever you do read in the morning makes you feel happy and confident today!
