Top 15 Moments From The Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon Feud

One of the most memorable celebrity feuds of all time is the one between Late Night Talk Show Host Jimmy Kimmel and Oscar-Winning Actor Matt Damon.  

Unlike other well-known celebrity feuds (such as the ones between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford; Kayne West and Taylor Swift; and Martha Stewart and Gwyneth Paltrow, to name a few), the one between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon is a “fake feud” only played in front of the camera for the former’s late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! (Off-camera, both Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon are friends). At then end of each show, Kimmel states “Apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time!”

In an interview, Kimmel explained that the running gag/feud started about he uttered that famous line during what he thought was a bad show during Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s first season in 2003. The comedian stated that Damon was the first name of an A-list celebrity who [Jimmy Kimmel Live!] wouldn’t bump if he was to appear on the show.

Since then, the feud between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon has produced several of the most funniest moments ever, all of which have happened on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, on social media, award shows, and other televised events, to name few. Even other celebrities have been involved in this memorable feud as well. 

As of November 1st, 2019 (the day that this article was written), here are the Top 15 Moments From The Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon Feud:

15. Damon’s 1st time on Jimmy Kimmel Live!:

About three years after Kimmel started saying “Apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time!” at the end of each episode, Damon finally made his first appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (see the clip below) on the episode that aired on September 12th, 2006.

The Oscar-Winner was brought out onto the stage at the very end of the show. After a lengthy introduction, Kimmel then states that they ran out of time to do the actual interview and asks the actor if he could come back on the show tomorrow. Damon was not happy and started cursing and a screaming match with the late night talk show host as the credits were rolling before storming off the stage. 

14. Damon gets the boot from “The Bourne Ultimatum”:

Guillermo, Kimmel’s sidekick and parking lot security guard, is one of several celebrities (and one of the most recurring ones) who have taken part in the Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon feud. After Damon’s outburst on the September 12th, 2006 episode, Kimmel decided to get revenge on his nemesis during 2007 by airing a trailer of Damon’s upcoming film The Bourne Ultimatum

The hilarious trailer that Kimmel aired featured Guillermo replacing Damon as Jason Bourne. An angry Damon is also shown confronting his replacement and getting angry over Kimmel trying to bump him fro his own movie.

13. Kimmel’s Pre-Oscar Antics:

Two of the fifteen best moments from the Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon Feud alone are from The 89th Academy Awards, which the former hosted. The event was broadcast on Live TV on February 26th, 2017. 

The Oscars provided Kimmel another opportunity to roast his nemesis as Damon was nominated that year as a producer for the film Manchester By The Sea, which was up for six awards, including Best Picture. Manchester By The Sea ended up winning two Oscars that night: Best Actor for Casey Affleck and Best Original Screenplay. Ahead of the ceremony, Kimmel posted a photo on social media which featured him drawing and defacing Damon’s picture, which was placed on the seat the Oscar-Winner would be sitting in for the ceremony.

12. When Tom Brady Got Involved in The Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon Feud:

On the May 2nd, 2019 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, six-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady became the latest celebrity to become entangled in the Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon feud! The New England Patriots Quarterback accompanied Kimmel and Guillermo to Matt Damon’s House and threw a football threw one of the windows (and breaking it as well). The hilarious confrontation between the four is shown in the clip below.

11. George Clooney’s Twins Manny:

Along with Guillermo, Oscar-Winner George Clooney is another one of several celebrities who have gotten involved in the Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon feud on more than one occasion.

While Clooney was on the show in 2018, Damon made an appearance as it was revealed that he was the Manny for the former’s newborn twins.

10. When Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon Went to Couples Counseling … TWO Times!:

In 2015 and 2016, both Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon went to couples therapy twice to try and salvage their relationship. Both attempts ultimately failed as the feud between the two has continued to go on since their last therapy session.

9. Whose The Daddy?:

In this segment that aired in 2017, Kimmel and his wife Molly (who was pregnant with their 2nd child) went to the doctor’s office to find out the gender of their baby. They were in for surprise when Damon showed up and claimed to be the father of Molly’s baby. 

8. When The Fire Alarm Went Off:

When the stars of the 2014 film The Monuments Men made an appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that same year to promote the movie, Damon technically finally made it on the show. While the rest of his co-stars got to sit in more comfortable chairs, Damon had to sit separate from them in a stool.

At the end of the show, Kimmel finally asked Damon a question. However, before the latter could give an answer, the fire alarm “suddenly” went off.

7. Matt Damon’s Mean Tweet:

Mean Tweets is one of the most popular recurring segments on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Traditionally, the Mean Tweets that celebrities read on the segment are ones from random Twitter users.

However, when Damon was one of the featured celebrities (and the last one) on the segment (see the clip below) that aired on February 7th, 2014, the tweet the Oscar-Winner read out came from Kimmel’s Twitter Account! What makes this even more funny is that as Damon was reading the tweet, Kimmel is standing in the background, mouthing every word!

6. The “I’m F*cking Matt Damon!” Music Video:

In 2008, the feud between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon reached its heights when the latter teamed up with the former’s then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman (who Kimmel dated from 2002-2009) to create the viral music video “I’m F**king Matt Damon.” The video was shown when Silverman made an appearance on Kimmel’s show on January 31st, 2008.

The video has received more than 20 million views on YouTube. In addition, “I’m F**king Matt Damon” won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics that year!

5. The “I’m F**king Ben Affleck!” Music Video:

A year later, Kimmel responded to Damon’s and Silverman’s “I’m F**cking Matt Damon” Music Video with a similar yet epic music video which featured Oscar-Winner Ben Affleck, Damon’s childhood best friend. Although Affleck and Damon have each other’s backs no matter what, the former (over the years) plays more of a peacemaker-like role in the feud between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon.

The title of Kimmel’s hilarious music video was “I’m F**king Ben Affleck!” Several celebrities, including Don Cheadle, Carmen Diaz, Josh Groban, and the late Robin Williams, to name a few, took part in Kimmel’s hilarious music video! In addition, Brad Pitt made an appearance in the video as a FedEx Delivery Guy. 

4. When Damon Took Over Jimmy Kimmel Live!:

One of the most memorable episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live! (and the feud between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon) aired on January 24th, 2013. In the episode, Damon took over and hosted the show that night. He even had Kimmel gagged and taped to a chair for the entire episode. The show was temporarily renamed Jimmy Kimmel Sucks! 3. Matt Damon Crashes The 2016 Emmys:

In 2016, Kimmel was not only nominated for an Emmy, but he also was the ceremony’s host that year! After Kimmel lost to John Oliver (from Last Week Tonight’s) in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series Category, Damon came out on stage to taunt the former about his loss.

The exchange between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon made the  entire audience and viewers at home laugh. One knows that they have made it in life when he/she is able to make Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock (both were in the audience that night) crack up. 

2. Jimmy Kimmel’s Opening Monologue at the Oscars 2017:

As stated earlier, Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 2017 Oscars and had plenty of opportunities to roast his nemesis as Damon was up for an Oscar that year as a producer for the film Manchester By The Sea, which was up for six awards, including Best Picture. 1. When Ben Affleck Snook Matt Damon on Jimmy Kimmel Live!:

Ben Affleck was a guest on the episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! that aired right after the 2016 Oscar Ceremony broadcast concluded. When The Oscar-Winner campout on stage, he looked really heavy.

Watch the clip below to see how Affleck was able to sneak Damon (who was nominated that year for Best Actor for his role in The Martian, which he lost to Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant) onto the show in order to get his childhood best friend and Kimmel make peace!
