Memorial Day Activities And Games Everyone Will Love

Memorial Day is almost upon us, and with it comes the start of Summer. If you’re not sure how to celebrate this year, I’ve come up with a few Memorial Day activities that might get you started. Whether you’re spending it with friends, family, or both, these are all easily doable and will make the day memorable for everyone.

Go to the pool and play some games in the water

Whether you happen to have a pool, know someone with a pool, or have a local pool you can go to, there’s no better way to start off Summer than by in the water. Put on some music, your best bikini, and take a dip. Take a throwback to your childhood and play some classic pool games (hint: Marco Polo). If you’re spending the day with family, this is an activity that everyone will undoubtedly enjoy.

Go on a bike ride

As it happens, May is National Bike Month. Get in the spirit of Summer and take a ride through your neighborhood. Biking is a great activity that you can do with either friends or family. Take in the scenery and get some exercise while you’re at it, then wind down with a nice meal afterwards. If there’s a local bike path, try it out and see what it has to offer. Get those endorphins flowing while also having a great time.

Go to a veterans’ cemetery

If you’d like to pay your respects to our country’s fallen soldiers, head to your local veterans’ cemetery. Oftentimes people get wrapped up in celebrating the beginning of Summer and forget that this holiday is about the remembrance of veterans who dedicated their lives to protecting our country. You’ll be able to place flags on graves, so take a few with you and take a moment to think about the people who put their lives on the line for yours.

Go to a parade

Most towns may celebrate Memorial Day with an annual parade. If you’re at a loss for what to do, hit up your local parade and enjoy the festivities with friends or family. This might be a good one if you have kids who are antsy from the excitement of the day. Take a moment to honor the fallen soldiers while also taking part in a parade dedicated to them.

Host a barbecue (and an eating contest)

What better way to get together with friends, celebrate Memorial Day, and enjoy good food than with a barbecue? Add an extra element of fun with an eating contest, and watch your friends and family get competitive, all while eating amazing food. You’ll really feel that Summer’s starting once you turn on the grill and start making some hot dogs and burgers. Barbecues are a great way to bring families and friends together, and can be fun for kids as well.

See an outdoor movie

Most communities host movies at the park every Summer. Check to see if your city takes part in this popular festivity, and if so, head to the movies at night. Bring some blankets, buy some snacks, and snuggle up with your loved ones while enjoying a movie underneath the stars. Since it’s Memorial Day, they might even play something American themed.

Make a care package for current soldiers

Honor soldiers of the past by taking care of the ones in the present. Compose a care package for troops with your friends or family. If you have kids, this is a great way to teach them how to show compassion for those who serve our country. Take the time out of your day to do something nice for someone before you start celebrating Summer with everyone else
