8 Medically Approved Reasons You Should Sleep Naked
Common knowledge says that an undisturbed sleep makes for a longer sleep, which in turn makes for a healthier lifecycle. But, what’s the best way you can ensure this seamless cycle? By trying to sleep naked of course!
Here’s 8 medically approved reasons why sleeping naked not only improves the quality of your sleep, but enriches your vitality too.
1. You might lose weight
The Independent posted an article which analysed the effectiveness of “the sleep diet” fad – apparently sleeping more than nine hours a night “appears to suppress genetic factors that lead to weight gain”. The National Health Institute (NHI) also suggests that sleeping naked is the best tool to maintain a healthy body temperature which raises metabolic rate, and burning fat more quickly as a result.
2. You’ll enjoy a happier love life
Being close to your partner is important. Spending time with them during the day brings your minds closer, but sleeping naked welcomes a level of intimacy which unparalleled. This deeper connection strengthens trust, and sets your hormones and libido a-rollin’ too. This is definitely a reason why you should try to sleep naked.
3. Helps to calm anxiety
This next reason ties seamlessly onto the last. Humans are sociable beings who require companionship. By touching your partner you trigger the release of the hormone oxytocin – or ‘The Love Hormone’ – which works to suppress the production of cortisol – or ‘The Stress Hormone’ – leaving only feelings of calmness, comfort and most importantly, security. A stressor shared, is a stressor halved.
4. Protects your lady parts (prevents infection etc)
Dr. Jennifer Landa, author of “The Sex Drive Solution for Women”, says that pyjamas muzzle temperature regulation, so by extension, impede the release of melatonin. Melatonin is essential in maintaining a healthy reproductive cycle. So, because the female genital area is naturally warm and moist, wearing pyjamas only encourages formation of an unhealthy breeding ground for infection-causing bacteria.
5. Better blood flow
By removing your clothes, you allow for unrestricted movement in sleep. This improves blood circulation, preventing things like Pins & Needles or cramp. It is this undisturbed circulation which further nurtures a healthy heart and strong muscles.
6. Slows ageing
According to Prof. Reiter from the University of Texas Health Science Centre, melatonin has incredibly high anti-oxidative properties. These equip it to fight several of the so-called free-radical-related illnesses such as age-related muscular degeneration.
7. Boosts self-esteem
As said, sleeping naked improves sleep. Improved quality of sleep allows the brain to destress. This natural cycle rejuvenates the body, and improves the mood in which you wake. Starting your day with a good head space will make you feel ready to achieve your goals, and your success will boost your self-esteem.
8. Become more comfortable with your body
It is good to know what your body looks and feels like in its most natural state. We spend all day every day in clothes, so a lack of body confidence is often attributed to the fact that we cover ourselves up for 90% of our day. By sleeping naked, you become familiar with your own physical form, and are able to appreciate its beauties and flaws. The better you know your body, the easier it is to fall in love with it.
