Marigold Is The “It” Color This Winter- Here’s How To Add It To Your Wardrobe

Winter 2019 may promise gloomy weather and gray skies, but the trends are anything but dreary. Looking at both New York and Paris fashion weeks this years, as well as where Fall trends are headed, we predict that a sunny Marigold yellow will be the shade that all of the fashionistas will be sporting on the city streets. Whether you’re more drawn to little details (like a tiny yellow necklace) or would rather go after bold statement pieces (like a fringed yellow coat), there’s bound to be an item in the pretty color that you’re bound to rock this December. Here are our favorite ways to add marigold yellow into your wardrobe.

1. Marigold Yellow Pants

We love winter because it finally gives us an excuse to try out tons of cute pant cuts and styles. We really like this slim cut pant (shown below) because it makes the wearer look put-together without requiring much maintenance (you may not even have to iron them). Plus, investing in a well-tailored set like this one (we recommend looking at Loft or Talbot’s) means you can do practically anything with the rest of the outfit. Try adding fun earrings, a chunky necklace, or a stunning trench coat to your ensemble. We love the outfit below because it’s both youthful and polished- the bright color of the pants and the eye-catching earrings and shades balance out the sophisticated purse and pumps (both basically matching the model’s skin tone). Isn’t she fabulous?

2. Marigold Yellow Sweater

Even though #sweaterweather technically started in the fall, we’re incorporating gorgeous, chic sweaters into our outfits all winter long. We love loose sweaters too because they go perfectly with jeans, boots, scarves, and most other pieces you’d like to incorporate. The style of your sweater is totally up to you- just keep in mind that stitching has a lot to do with drawing (or distracting) the eye. For example, if there’s a lot of ruching at the midsection, that may cause people to stare at that particular spot. But if you go for something with more streamlined, vertical stitching, then you create a long, lean line. As we’ve seen in the other example, primary colors like black and white go great with marigold, so have fun experimenting with different accessories in those colors and see what you think!

3. Marigold Yellow Dress

Femininity has made a huge comeback in 2019 style overall, and adding a few key womanly staples like an A-line dress or two is sure to prove strategic. The model below can easily pull off pairing paler elements (the tan coat and skin-tone shoes from the same color family) in the ensemble since a0 the dress’s color is bright enough to not need any more embellishment and b) she has a naturally strong skin-hair contrast, so her ‘do is acts as the second focal point of the outfit. If you’ve got lighter hair (or just like lots of color), try out an orangey-red lipstick shade or some hot pink drop earrings. You’ll be the talk of the town!

4. Marigold Yellow Skirt

Once more amplifying the feminine mystique, a marigold skirt will flatter your figure, make any outfit fun, and turn heads whenever you pop into your coffee shop. And you don’t (really) have to worry about over-accessorizing with this beauty- the quirkier, the more romantic, the better. Want to spend half an hour giving yourself voluminous waves and flaunt your style in a flowing marigold a-line skirt? Go for it. Dying to add textured black tights, ankle boots, a turtle neck, and a statement ring? Even better! Pro-tip: stick with two or three neutral colors (marigold being the bold color and white or black being the options for the other colors) so you can go ahead and do anything you want jewelry-wise. Your VSCO board is about to get a lot more crowded!

5. Yellow Overcoat

We can’t help it- we’re absolutely obsessed with coats! They’re useful, beautiful, and they have such a timelessness that goes with even the most modern pieces. We especially love a cinched waist (in the form of a fitted shirt or a dress) paired with an unbuttoned, double-breasted woolen coat placed on the shoulders. The cut and style of this kind of coat with details just like this add a nice, structured touch to such girly elements and colors. Plus, this coat is such a showstopper on its own, you don’t need to worry about pairing it with gorgeous jewelry or fancy shoes. Just add some plaid white Adidas, a spritz or two of perfume and you’re ready to go! We’ve even seen this look paired with a striped long-sleeve shirt and a baseball cap, so if you’ve got a look in mind that’s way out of the box, don’t be afraid to try it out.

6. Marigold Yellow Earrings

As great of a color marigold is, some prefer it in smaller doses (and we totally respect you for that). Next time you’re at Target, head for the jewelry section and check out the yellow earrings (if not there, then wherever you get jewelry). Hold up different styles and find which ones “speak” to you. Maybe you like square-shaped earrings because you like more modern designs. or perhaps you lean more towards beaded earrings because you admire their intricacy. Whatever model fits your fancy, you’ll be sure to look chic. We’re totally into this look below, which features a bold marigold coat and matching earrings, but however much marigold you want in your outfit is totally up to you.

P.S. The same logic we applied to marigold earrings could be used for handbags, shoes, hair accessories, or even nail polish. You can have as many (or as few) marigold yellow items you like and still embrace the winter 2019 trend.
