Making Water Drinkable

Let’s face it, the only time you actually enjoy drinking something is when it is infused with copious amounts of caffeine or it has a base of vodka. Your annoying body requires that H2O to ensure organs are working properly, and you can still function like an average human being…well, as best as you can anyway. Drinking water, while being totally flavorless, is good for your skin, amount of energy you have through ought the day and distracts you from interacting with the human population. Think of it like coffee…but worse.

While coffee and alcohol are clearly better, you are in luck because there are a few things you can do to make water drinkable. Get ready to hydrate with the next couple of steps.

Everyone likes fruit, at least slightly more than water. The first step to making water taste like it has some form of flavor is with your favorite fruit. While this changes the water to look more like a boujee cocktail, it is still pretty solid in flavor. Here are some options to infuse your water with fruit to make it drinkable.

Grapefruit and Rosemary

You might think it is a little unusual to stick a twig of rosemary in your water, but I promise you it works. The best tip here is to let your water sit overnight while infused with grapefruit and rosemary. Apparently, this is also some sort of detox, so really, you can’t go wrong with this infusion.

1 gallon of water
3-4 Grapefruits
2-3 Sprigs of Rosemary


Fill a pitcher with water and cut up fresh grapefruit. Combine cut-up grapefruit with water. To get more of a grapefruit flavor, add more pieces of grapefruit or squeeze the juice into the pitcher. Add twigs of rosemary into the pitcher, again adding more for stronger flavor. Chill, covered, in the refrigerator overnight or until chilled. When you wake up, your water will taste a lot less like nothing and more like an actual flavor.

Spicey Cinnamon

Switching up flavors of water is always a must. You likely switch up your cocktails or coffee order every once in a while because it can be fun to try different things. Everyone needs an interesting flavor with a little kick in it so try this next one for your next water extravaganza.

1 Gallon of Water
1-2 Pears
6-8 Cinnamon Sticks
Fresh Ginger

Prep a container for water. Slice pears into pieces roughly ¼ in thick. Add sliced pears into the gallon of water along with fresh cinnamon sticks. Finely grate ginger into the gallon of water.
It might be useful to strain this particular combination if you don’t prefer small fragments of fruit or ginger in your drink. If that is the case, choose a water bottle that has a built-in strainer for instances such as these, or prepare an extra container to pour infused water into. Additionally, a pear can turn more of brown color the longer it sits out. It is recommended to only let this combination soak for 4-6 hours before serving.

Cucumber Classic

While water itself can seem dull, adding some cucumber and lemon into the mix can definitely change the flavor of the water. Plus, sticking to the classics is always a good way to ensure awesome results. There is really no right or wrong way to do this, but here are the suggested proportions.

1 Gallon of Water
2-4 Lemons or Limes
1 Fresh Cucumber

Prep 1 Gallon of Water in a container of your choosing. Squeeze fresh lemon or lime into a separate container or directly into the water (Be mindful of seeds). For added flavor, zest a lemon or lime to combine into water. Add extracted juice to the water. Thinly slice cucumber and add to the mixture. (For a different look, make cucumber spirals as opposed to slices).
If you want to make this cucumber classic a bit less classic, combine a couple spices to kick up the flavor a bit more.

1 tsp Coriander
1 tsp Cumin
1 tsp Paprika

Combine the above spices into a bowl and stir until well combined. Add spices to the rim of glass similar to a cocktail or directly to the gallon of water that has been prepared.

The Darker Side

While lighter drinks can be very refreshing and look visually appealing, darker combinations can be striking and flavorful. If you want something with a sweeter flavor, try this combination in your water.

1 Gallon of Water
1/2 Cup of Blueberries
1/2 Cup of Pomegranate
Mint

This water infusion will be prepared more like a cocktail. If you want your blueberries and pomegranates to be a bit more well done, consider sautéing the fruit before adding it into the water. Sauté until the fruit has opened and become more juice-like. Muddle the fruit at the bottom of the chosen container before adding water. Combine water and mint leaves to the combination and let sit for 4-6 hours or overnight.

For all of these infusion options, ice should be the last thing that is added to the mixture. Letting the water cool in the fridge will provide more flavor to the drink. While these options were all intended to serve cool, there are tons of other ways to drink water in the form of tea. Personally, I don’t see the obsession over tea as it is literally glorified leaf water, but I know many have their own preferences. All in all, these options should get you drinking more H20 from the time you wake up until the time you fall asleep. If water really isn’t your thing, I promise you, you aren’t alone. Try different ways of hydrating such as a cup with fun stickers or adding a straw to the mix. Having an adorable cup or container next to you will encourage you to drink more than you would if you had to go physically get something.
