Makeup That Is Just Perfect for the Winter Season
I love wearing makeup all year round. Since I do I have to learn what products best suit different climates. Sometimes you have to do a bit of research but ultimately the choice is up to you on what best suits you and your makeup look. During the winter makeup becomes a little difficult to wear especially since we are all wearing scarves and masks. It’s all about finding out what makeup best suits the wintertime and how to wear it properly. These are just some products that are going to help protect your makeup looks so that they can last the whole day.
Matte Primer
When it comes to makeup, always start with a strong base. Matte primers are a great way to keep your makeup lasting longer and looking fresher. A matte primer is what is going to smooth out your skin from pores and blemishes and really lets the foundation lay on your skin almost airbrushed. There are a lot of options for affordable matte primers such as NYX Shine Killer primer or e.l.f cosmetics matte poreless putty primer. As long as you’ve got the right base your makeup should last longer during the day and it’s just an extra layer of protection for potential rubbing of jackets, masks, or scarves.
Moisturizer
It is so important to always moisturize your skin daily to keep it smooth and healthy. It’s even more important to moisturize in the wintertime because the cold air can tend to be really drying on your skin. Moisturizer is great to use for the wintertime especially underneath makeup. You should moisturize before putting on any makeup because more likely than not you’ll be using matte products in the winter. The matte products, although great for keeping makeup on in the winter, will dry out your face. That is why you need to moisturize before putting on makeup because it will keep your skin hydrated underneath all the matte makeup. A great and affordable moisturizer is the CeraVe daily moisturizing lotion or the Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel.
Matte Foundation
Just as the matte primer is great for winter so is the second layer, which is a matte foundation. This will be really great for the winter to keep your base makeup looking smooth and almost blurry. Matte foundation is the foundation you want to use when you want your makeup looks to last. There are a lot of things that could cause a lot of friction on your face during the day such as masks, scarves, and jacket collars. That’s why you need a foundation that is the most transfer-proof and will also look good no matter how long you wear it. A great example of a foundation like this is the Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Foundation or L.A. Girl Pro Coverage Matte Foundation.
Translucent Powder
Always set your wet products when you are wearing makeup. If you don’t set your foundation or cream products you will be in for a smearing mess. If you set your makeup with translucent powder it won’t only look great but will also set your makeup for the rest of the day. You need a good translucent powder for the wintertime to make sure that your looks will last. There are a lot of options for affordable translucent powders such as the Airspun Loose Powder or NYX Finishing Translucent Pressed Powder.
Waterproof Eyeliner and Mascara
If you’re like me you know the struggles of getting cold air blown in your eyes and having them tear up. A lot of eyeliners or mascaras will instantly smudge when you cry if there’s water on them. That’s why you need to go for waterproof products. Waterproof eyeliner and mascara are going to protect your makeup look from running when you tear up from the cold. They are also great if you end up getting rained on or snowed on because they won’t run from the water. Sometimes waterproof products are a little stubborn to remove so your best bet is to get micellar water with a cotton round and let the micellar water sit on your eyes for a second before wiping it away. Micellar water is great for breaking down waterproof products. Some great examples for waterproof eyeliner and mascara are Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner or Essence Lash Princess Waterproof Mascara.
Blush
This is more for aesthetic purposes rather than technical reasons. Your skin naturally blushes in the cold and it’s a really adorable shade of rouge. Personally, I hate losing that color when I put makeup on so blush is important for me in the wintertime. This way when I’m cold I still get the blush shining through my makeup as if it was natural. A nice rose red or pink looks great for the wintertime and will add an adorable addition to any look. To try something new with your makeup put some blush on your nose. It just adds to the natural blushing effect and can really tie in your makeup look.
Matte Lipstick
One of the big struggles us makeup lovers are dealing with right now is our makeup rubbing off underneath our masks. It truly can’t be helped, you have to expect makeup rubbing off at some point but there are ways to prevent the most makeup coming off. Matte lipstick is going to be your friend this winter because if you find a really good lipstick it will not come off. No matter what you do good matte lipstick stays on your lips all day and won’t budge no matter the friction. Some great winter colors would be a nice red or bright pink. Some great matte lipsticks are Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lip or Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit.
