Love Your Melon is a charity that was founded by Zachary Quinn and Brian Keller during their sophomore year at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. Both Zach and Brian wanted to do something special for children battling cancer. They decided to start by selling hats to other students at their school, and for each hat sold they would also provide a hat to a child battling cancer. The students and community were so receptive to the generous idea that the hats sold out in the first weekend.
Realizing that something as simple as giving a child with cancer a hat could change their outlook on life, both students decided to take the mission to colleges and universities all across America. After traveling around the nation on tours, Brian and Zach decided the best way to get more people involved in Love Your Melon was though other universities; college students would act as ambassadors spreading the mission of Love Your Melon around their own campuses.
Ambassadors raise awareness around their schools and cities by establishing a group called the Campus Crew. Each person in the crew is dedicated to the mission of selling hats to raise money for children with cancer as well as cancer research. The program has become very successful and a Campus Crew has recently been established here at St. John’s University!
As a participating crew member at St. John’s I am proud to say that we are constantly keeping the Love Your Melon mission a priority. Though our group may be just starting off, we are determined to sell as many hats as possible in order to help raise awareness for childhood cancer research and represent the Love Your Melon brand.
You can purchase these hats here! Be sure to choose St. John’s University at checkout to support childhood cancer research and the St. John’s University Love Your Melon Campus Crew!
