It’s finally summer, which means finally no more classes or worrying about school. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t take some time to reflect on our schools and what we love about them. I go to the University of Alabama Huntsville, and there’s so much to love about it!
Because the student population is pretty small, the classes aren’t too big. Most of mine have been between 20 and 40 students aside from the pre-reqs that everyone has to take. A smaller class environment really is better for learning.
GO CHARGERS! Our entire school is insanely spirited, which is a nice change from the high school environment where it was “overrated” to have school spirit.
We have one of the only university hockey teams in the south, and we’re super proud of them. Hockey, for me, is one of the most interesting and exciting sports. Plus, students get into games for free with their ID!
If you compare UAH to a lot of other campuses in the U.S., it’s pretty small! This is great because it makes it a lot easier to get around on foot, and you don’t get lost as easily as a new student or visitor.
UAH has a really close-knit community of honors students. Having been a member of the honors college for two years, I can say I really appreciated all the special events they always hosted as well as the honors classes (which are even smaller than normal classes).
Huntsville really is a flourishing city with a lot to do. It’s not to big and not too small. It’s just a pleasant place to live and study.
UAH has had a lot of construction going on in the past few years because they’re always trying to improve student life and grow the UAH community. They’ve built an entirely new dorm, a student success center, changed the entire flow of traffic for effectiveness, and are in the process of re-paving a lot of sidewalks to make students’ on-foot commutes much smoother!
The University of Alabama Huntsville is also known for its diversity. We have students representing almost every state in the U.S. and dozens of countries worldwide! This provides a myriad of different perspectives in the classroom which are really invaluable.
Our Association for Campus Entertainment is an amazingly hard-working group of students who never fail to provide some of the most awesome events throughout the year. They have “ACE Wednesdays” when, every week, they provide comedic acts, musical guests, movies, games, and a lot of other things for students to help us de-stress during the week. They definitely don’t get enough appreciation.
You’ll never go hungry on UAH’s campus. We have a lot of awesome places to get food and drinks: Starbucks, Dunkin’, WOW, Chick-fil-A, Burrito Bowl, Sandellas, and the list goes on!
