Back to school is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start thinking about what we’re going to wear for the new semester. Why not try stealing some looks from some of the most fashionable people on TV: the ladies of Friends? Here are five looks you can totally recreate for back to school.
Monica in this early episode of Friends is wearing a pretty basic all-black outfit with some shiny black oxfords that tie together the outfit. This is a great back to school outfit because it’s casual enough you won’t look like you’re trying too hard, but it’ll elevate your usual outfit just a little bit so you look effortlessly cool. This look in particular could transition easily from class to a party. As a bonus, if you go for a tank top like Monica’s wearing, you can wear this in early fall and look appropriate for the season without overheating!

When I think of Rachel Green’s looks from Friends, this is the one that I think of first. The plaid skirt and knee sock combo is iconic and totally something that you could wear to class! Every piece of this outfit screams “fall” from the plaid to the knee socks to the sweater. Best of all, you probably already own the pieces of this outfit! This look could easily be dressed up by wearing heels and adding a statement necklace and bold lip.

If you have a floral skirt or dress lying around, you can recreate this look no problem! If you choose a darker floral to make this a little more autumnal and pair it with boots, you’ve got yourself a killer look for class or a coffee date with that cute guy from your Intro to Psych class. Simply add a buttoned-up denim vest to your favorite dress and throw your hair in a bun for instant Rachel Green vibes! This is a great look to try if you’re hesitant to go full-90’s or if you’re looking something to transition your sundresses into fall.
While this isn’t the most ground breaking look, it’s definitely a great look from Friends to recreate because it’s so casual and has definite 90’s vibes! You almost certainly have everything from this outfit in your wardrobe already. In fact, you could personalize this look easily if red’s not your favorite color or you don’t own a red tank top. All you have to do is trade the purse for your backpack and you’re ready to head to class. Hopefully in addition to channeling Monica in you outfit you can channel her in class!

Throwing tights under a skirt or dress can help you transition it from summer to fall, but you should definitely take a page from Rachel’s fashion book and try wearing them under some shorts! Any long sleeved shirt you have, any shorts, and any tights would really do for this look, but to really get the vibe try sticking to the black and white color scheme Rachel has going on in this look. This could be a really cute look if you have a game day coming up or if you have a lunch date to look nice for. It’s the perfect balance of cute and put together and causal.
