30 Last Minute Halloween Hacks
Halloween is arguably one of the best times of the year. The weather is getting colder, the leaves are changing, and nighttime gets ten times more spooky. But if you’re like me (a busy college student) and you don’t have much free time to prepare for one of your favorite holidays, there are plenty of things you can do to get ready last minute. Here are 30 of my personal favorite Halloween hacks for this time of year!
1) Make potion bottles out of hot glue, paint, and a few other items.
Cute desktop potion bottles like these are super easy and fun to DIY. A full video on how to create these can be found here.
2) Create simple costumes with tshirts and fabric markers/ paint.
These costumes are super easy to make. All you need is a colored t-shirt (which can be found super cheap,) and fabric markers or paint. Use a reference photo of your fruit of choice and start creating! These girls even made some head pieces out of paper to complete the look.

3) Dollar store decorations!
It doesn’t get any less expensive than the dollar store! They tend to actually have great stuff when it comes to simple decorating. See what you can find to create one cohesive spooky atmosphere for your door, room, or house.
4) Make wands out of chopsticks, hot glue, and paint.
Every a Harry Potter lover will be obsessed with this hack! You can make your own personalized wand with only some chopsticks, hot glue, paint, and some other dollar store finds. You can check out a full video on how to make them here.
5) Use Amazon prime for everything.
Prime is amazing when it comes to last minute purchases. That free two-day shipping is a life saver, so if you plan on buying anything last minute this Halloween, definitely do so through Amazon. I just bought my entire costume from Amazon prime and am awaiting it’s arrival! Definitely on the best Halloween hacks to know about!
6) Make a jack-o-lantern pizza!
This is a fun food hack that anyone can do! Just make your pizza dough into the shape of a pumpkin, and create a face using pepperoni or any other kind of topping!
7) Fishnet stockings can make cool mermaid scale makeup.
This is one of the best Halloween hacks for those being a mermaid, all you need to do is create realistic scales on your face with a pair of fishnet tights and some makeup. Pull the tights over your head, place them on your face, and tap over them with whatever color makeup you desire. More in depth tutorials for this can be found all over YouTube.

8) Make your own fake blood.
There are tons of recipes for fake blood on the internet! If you don’t have time to run to a Halloween store to buy fake blood, just turn to Google and see what you can create with things you already have at home!

9) Create an ice hand using a latex glove.
This is a classic trick and an easy one at that. All you have to do is fill up a latex glove with water, tie it up, stick it in the freezer, and a few hours later you have a creepy addition to any communal beverage at a party!
10) Paint a small pumpkin instead of carving a big one.
If you’re like me and will be at college for the majority of the month of October, you probably wont want to carve an actual pumpkin to put in your room. Instead, consider picking or buying a few small pumpkins and painting them! You can even make this an entire event with your roommates and friends! Once done, you’ll have cute, small, and odorless decorations for your room that will last until the end of the month.
11) Have a horror movie night to get spooky.
There’s no easier way to get into the Halloween spirit than to watch a bunch of scary movies!
12) Buy all the Halloween themed food you can find.
There’s no question about it–holiday themed food always tastes better than original snacks. Stores should be filled with these seasonal treats around this time so stock up on all of your favorites.
13) Use face paint and eye shadow to create awesome makeup looks.
Some of the most awesome Halloween looks can be created with makeup and paint! There are endless tutorials on YouTube as well as inspiration everywhere on the internet, so pick your favorite looks and try them out! Practice makes perfect!

If you’re feeling artsy, try out some more elaborate nail designs. A technique that is super easy to use and has a great end result is using a toothbrush or straw to splatter red nail polish across your nails to look like blood! Definitely one of the best Halloween hacks to know about!

There’s nothing easier than turning on your TV to watch some spooky movies! FreeForm just started their 13 Nights of Halloween, meaning they will be playing Halloween movies every night until Halloween. If you’re looking for some great Halloween hacks, then this is definitely one of them!
19) Netflix has tons of creepy movies and TV shows to watch.
Just open up the horror, thriller, or Halloween picks sections of Netflix and enjoy all of the movies your dark heart desires!
20) Check the thrift store for costume pieces.
Halloween costumes can be expensive, so if you’re looking to save money when getting a last minute costume, head to your local thrift store and see what you can find. It’s totally possible to head in there with absolutely no idea what you want to be, but as soon as you see certain articles of clothing you are bound to find tons of costume options.
21) DIY a costume rather than buying one.
Once again, Halloween costumes can be pretty expensive. So get creative and make one yourself!
22) Take to Pinterest, YouTube, or Google for costume and decoration inspiration.
If you don’t consider yourself a creative person, or just aren’t sure how to decorate or dress up for Halloween, there are plenty of people who are willing to help! YouTube, Pinterest, and Google are your best friends when it comes to inspiration, ideas, and tutorials.
23) Create a Halloween playlist on YouTube or Spotify to always be in the Halloween spirit.
Tons of people love Christmas music, but Halloween music is THE BEST. Create a playlist with all of your personal faves and listen to it all the time. Halloween hacks like this will definitely put you in the holiday spirit.
24) Use what you already have laying around the house.
When it comes to holiday decorating, costumes, food, and more, no one wants to spend a fortune. So, take a stroll around your house and dig through your closets to see what you can find that will aid your holiday needs. Get creative with what you find!
25) Order candy in bulk.
Halloween means one thing: candy. In order to save money and still get all the candy you need for trick-or-treaters and your own sweet tooth, order or buy candy in bulk. Halloween hacks like this will come in handy, trust me.

It’s amazing what you can make with simple craft items. This is a great way to decorate while in college; it can be quick, easy, and cheap!
27) Take a trip to 5 Below or Party City to buy a full costume last minute.
If you absolutely need to buy a completed costume last minute, you can head to a store like Party City or 5 Below. They both carry everything you’d ever need for a complete costume.
28) Use a pasta scoop to scoop out the insides of a pumpkin before carving it.
I love using Halloween hacks like this. Using a toothed, metal pasta scoop to clear out your pumpkin saves so much time and energy. It scrapes the sides of the pumpkin with its various teeth and removes the pumpkin guts so easily!

30) Take advantage of the fall weather for cool/creepy photo shoots.
