20 Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas That Don’t Disappoint
If a change of plans leaves you needing a last minute Halloween costume, you’re in good company. If you simply just kept putting it off, we’ve all been there. From group costumes to flying solo, there’s a little something for everyone. Here are some last minute Halloween costume ideas that don’t disappoint this year!
Groups
1. Price Is Right Contestants
“Come on donwnnn”. This phrase can only belong to one show, The Price Is Right. If you have never seen this show, four people on contestant row, bid on items in hopes of making it onto the main show. The key is to get as close to the price without going over. For this Halloween costume, it’s super easy to reenact. Each of the four “players” will be dressed in their corresponding color with a name tag. To make the contestant box, simply use cardboard and construction paper. Don’t forget to place a bet to see who has the correct price!
2. Ice Cream Flavors And Scooper
This costume is as easy to make, as it is to make a sundae. Start by having everyone in the group pick a different flavor to be. This is the color shirt or dress they should wear as their costume. Next add in toppings, like sprinkles or chocolate chips with paint or paper. Then make sure to have someone dress up as the ice cream scooper, and it’s as easy as that. Extra points for making an ice cream cone hat to wear on your heads too.
3. F.R.I.E.N.D.S
We’ll be here for you with this last minute Halloween costume. Almost everyone has seen FRIENDS (if you haven’t, you don’t know what you’re missing) so they are bound to get your group costume idea. The group has three girls: Rachel, Monica and Phoebe. There are also three guys: Ross, Chandler and Joey. Have everyone in the group pick their character and have them dress in their most iconic look. Make sure to take a picture together so you can all look at it later.
4. Cards Against Humanity
This costume is sure to make everyone laugh when they read the fine print. The Cards Against Humanity group costume is going to be a hit. Just like in the card game, the black card is the fill in the blank card. The white cards are the answers. Have everyone in the group choose which card they want to be. You can make the costumes out of poster board and hang them around your neck, so you don’t lose them throughout the night. You can have one black card or more to make the responses that much funnier.
5. Roaring 20’s
When you need a last minute Halloween costume, there’s no better place to look than in your closet. It’s time to break out your old formal dresses and put them to good use. The roaring 20’s costume about the easiest costume to put together last minute. Ladies it’s all about fringe, pearls and feathers. Guys were looking for suits, fedoras and watches. This is one of those times where it’s fun to go all out for a costume.
Couples
1. Filter VS No Filter
Everyone knows that social media photos aren’t all their cracked up to be. There’s a lot of work that goes into taking the perfect photo. Why not dress up this Halloween as the filter vs no filter costume? One person dresses up perfectly as the filtered photo. The other person dresses as a more realistic version. Choose an outfit that both people can easily wear, or have similar pieces so the costume looks somewhat put together.
2. Fireman And Dalmatian
This costume is hot! No really, this costume literally looks like you can put out fires. The fireman and the dalmatian is a sizzling couples costume. Either person in the relationship can dress up as a fireman. Simply wear a white shirt, suspends and dark pants. The costume can’t be complete without the fireman hat either. As for the dog costume, wear a white top and decorate it with black spots. You can make doggie ears or doggie makeup for added accessorizes.
3. Old Married Couple
Why not get a glimpse into the future with your SO with this Halloween costume. The old married couple costume can show you what you have to look forward too! The grandpa part is all about a short sleeve button down tucked into his pants with a belt and cane. For grandma, there’s a couple ways to dress her part. One option is to go as “church grandma” which is the long floral gown and matching hat. Another option is to wear a cardigan over a matching top and pant set. For extra creativity, don’t forget the grey hair, canes and glasses!
4. Starbucks Barista And Drink
“Order’s ready for Kristen”. Everyone loves Starbucks so much that you might as well dress up as them for a Halloween costume. Have your guy dress up as the barista. He’ll need an apron, black shirt and name tag. As the drink, you’ll need a tan or white midi dress to act as the drink. Next comes a feather boa as the whip cream and straw topper hat. The straw hat works best with a pool noodle or construction paper rolled up. Be anything but basic this Halloween.
5. “Operation”
Someone page a doctor! This Operation game is where we all first played doctors and nurses with each other. This Halloween, go ahead and reenact those days with a doctor and patient couples costume. The doctor should be wearing scrubs (or a matching top and bottom set) with a mask, not hard to find these days. As the patient, you’ll be undergoing surgery to remove all the items out of your body. For your costume dress in a tan top and red shorts. Make the items out of cardboard and attach them to your outfit! Now all you have to do is survive the operation!
Singles
1. Scuba Driver
You can look like a legit scuba diver with a simple item that everyone has in their homes. Pop bottles! Not only do they make a great costume prop, you’re recycling them as well. Start by wearing all black, this is basically your “wet suit”. Next you’ll want to add on your scuba pack. We recommend painting the pop bottles so they look more like tanks. Then all you need is a mask to wear on top of your head. Ta-do. A last minute Halloween costume that looks anything but.
2. Twister
Right hand red. Left foot blue. Twister was the game we all grew up playing in our parent’s basements. Go back to your childhood days with this costume. Start with an oversized white t-shirt, this will become a dress on you, and acts like the white mat. Then go ahead and paint on the colored circles in rows. Finally make the spinner and carry it around with you all night. Just watch out for people that actually want to play the game, while you are wearing your costume!
3. Unicorn
Who wouldn’t want to be a magical unicorn? We know we do! This year, the unicorn costume is perfect for last minute party invites. It’s super simple to pull off and won’t break the bank trying to put it together. Start by wearing a white top and bottom. Hint: you can switch out white bottoms for a tutu. Next add in your unicorn headband and add sparkles everywhere. We seriously mean everywhere. Once that’s all set, you’re ready to head to the party.
4. The Tourist
After being stuck at home for the last few months, plenty of us are ready to travel again. Until that happens, try settling for being a tourist this Halloween. This is as close to the real thing as possible. Dig through your closet (or a friends) until you find a Hawaiian shirt. Pair it with shorts and a bucket hat. It’s not super important that everything matches! Don’t forget the fanny pack, it’s a dead giveaway that you’re a tourist.
5. Rosie The Riveter
Shout out to the original strong, independent woman. Rosie The Riveter is a great last minute Halloween costume. One of the best things is that you probably already own everything you need. Rosie wears dark wash jeans, a light wash top and a red bandanna. Pull your hair up into a ponytail and add the red lipstick. Now you are ready to work and look like a total BA!
Best Friends
1. The (White) Claw Machine Aliens
White Claws have taken the world by storm. Everyone’s had one, even if it was just to try it. Just like in Toy Story where the little aliens are stuck in the claw machine, America has become mesmerized with the Claws. Take your love of White Claws to the next level by dressing up as the claw machine aliens! The play on word is just as fun as the costume. Dress in oversized blue t-shirt dresses, green socks and even some out of this world makeup. When you take the picture, make sure someone holds the White Claw above you in the photo!
2. Gymnast Team
Since we have to wait a little while longer to see gymnastics in the Olympics, why not dress as a gymnast team for Halloween. Grab a friend or four to make the perfect fab five women’s gymnastics team! Have each friend commit to dressing in matching costumes. Feel free to wear leotards, or go with gym shorts, matching tanks and gym shoes. Award everyone a gold medal and make sure to show them off all night long.
3. Social Media Icons
Everyone has a favorite social media that they use. Whether it be Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. If you need a last minute Halloween costume, social media icons are the way to go! Not only are the icons, iconic (go figure) they also extremely easy to make. The cheapest and easiest way to do this is with an oversized t-shirt dress. Everyone in the group will chose a different icon and pick a shirt color accordingly. Finally paint on the icon and you will be ready to go! Hey who knows, you might even get a new follower or two!
4. Mean Girls
It’s not a regular Halloween costume, it’s a cool Halloween costume. Oh we will never get tired of Mean Girls references. If you need a last minute costume, the Mean Girls group costumes are the way to go. Will you dress up as the girls from the Halloween scene? Will you dress all in pink? Will you dress in the Santa talent show outfit, mom videotaping included? There are so many possibilities, it will be hard to choose only one scene to dress up as.
5. Seasons
Everyone has a favorite season. There are pros and cons that come with each one. This Halloween dress up as your favorite season! Grab the girls and have everyone dress as a different one. Spring is all about pastels and floral patterns. Summer is all about sunshine and blue skies. Fall brings apple cider and leaves. Winter brings, snow and hot chocolate. The best thing about this is Halloween typically isn’t that cold, so you can get away with wearing outfits that still represent the warmer seasons too!
