10 Job Hunting Tips For Any Recent College Grad

As a recent grad, you are probably already sick of everyone asking if you’ve found a job. It is tedious to answer, especially if you haven’t found a position yet. However, there are ways to expedite your job search to be as successful as possible. Here are 10 job hunting tips for any recent college grad!

1. Network, network, network

It’s true when they say it’s not about what you know; it’s who you know. Networking, whether it’s at an event or just with classmates or professors, is a great way to get job leads. This is one of the top job hunting tips!

2. Attend career fairs

Career fairs put you face-to-face with companies that are looking to hire. Whether you attend a career-specific fair or a general one, these events allow you to get your face into the minds of hiring managers and your resume in the proper hands.

3. Visit the career center

As an alumnus, you still have access to Temple’s career tools and career center. Utilize these to help you get a head shot and have your resume reviewed by someone who is in the know.

4. Don’t hesitate to take an unpaid internship at first

While this may be contrary to what you feel is the next step, it is actually one that is recommended by professors. Many employers see their internship programs as training programs for future employees and love being able to hire former interns.

5. Use job boards

Looking on job boards such as Indeed and WayUp allow you to narrow down keywords to see what positions are available. You can even set up alerts to have relevant jobs emailed to you.

6. Ask classmates

If your classmates found positions before you did, ask them how they did it or if their company is hiring. They may keep an eye out at their company to see if anything opens up.

7.  Keep in touch with professors

Professors are often experts in their fields, so they have contacts. They may be able to guide you to a job or alert you to potential jobs.

8. Utilize social media

Sometimes, job openings that are relevant to you pop up on social media automatically. Also, joining relevant groups and talking to contacts can help lead to positions.

9. Download Shapr

Shapr is like Tinder except for the fact that you are looking for people in your field to connect to. You swipe right if someone may impact you and swipe left you don’t want to meet someone.

10. Look on company websites

If you know that you want to work at a specific company, check out their website. They often have a specific section just for job postings and applying for positions.
