If you asked me for A Star is Born quotes, I could name a lot of different lines from the movie. The ones that stick with me the most, after seeing this movie countless times, are the ones that have inspired me. Inspired me to follow my dreams, to live more passionately, and to have something to say. I’ve rounded up the top ten inspiring quotes from the beautiful movie starring Bradley Cooper (who also directed) and Lady Gaga (who produced most of the music), and I hope they make you feel inspired, too.
“Maybe it’s time to let the old ways die. Takes a lot to change a man, hell it takes a lot to try. Maybe it’s time to let the old ways die. Nobody knows what waits for the dead.” –Jack
This is one of the first few songs we hear in the movie, and it gives us one of the first looks into Jack and his life. I can’t pinpoint exactly why but I’ve always felt moved by the meaning of this song, and the line “maybe it’s time to let the old ways die.” It’s one of the best A Star is Born quotes.
“Look, talent comes everywhere. Everybody’s talented, everyone in this bar is talented in one thing or another but having something to say, and the way you say it so people listen to it is a whole other bag. Unless you get out there and you try to do it you’ll never know, that’s just the truth. There’s one reason were supposed to be here is to say something so people here it.” –Jack
Jack and Ally are having drinks at the cop bar when they start talking about Ally’s past in trying to get a record deal. She’s saying the producers are always commenting on her appearance, and her nose being too big. This is Jackson’s response to that, and I find it some of the most inspiring lines from the movie because of the truth it speaks. Having something to say and something you’re passionate about in this life is one of the most important things. I think this comes through a lot for Jackson in that he wants to say something meaningful for people, it’s why he’s here.
“Tell me something boy. Aren’t you tired trying to fill that void? Or do you need more? Ain’t it hard keeping it so hardcore.” -Ally
Out of all the A Star is Born quotes, this is one of my favorites. Ally and Jack are in the parking lot, with a bag of peas taped to her hand, and she starts singing these lines after he tells her about her past. These lines soon become part of the (now world famous) song Shallow. I find them inspiring because she’s really seeing him, and asking him about himself. Something that doesn’t happen often to Jack because of his fame. The lines hark at all of us, though. What do we need? What barriers have we put up in our life, due to past experiences? Later Jack surprises Ally with the first lines of the song, asking her “are you happy in this modern world?”
“All you gotta do is trust me. That’s all you gotta do.” -Jack
This is possibly one of the most iconic scenes from the movie, and it’s very impactful. Ally has lost all of her confidence in her singing career, until this moment. Jack wants her to sing on stage, and she refuses at first. He says “all you gotta do is trust me” then walks out on to stage. She thinks about it, then ultimately decides to go out there and they sing Shallow together. Sometimes we just need someone to place our trust in, and things will work out for us.
“You found the light in me that I couldn’t find…When the sun goes down, and the band won’t play, I’ll always remember us this way. Lovers in the night. Poets trying to write. We don’t know how to rhyme but damn we try.” -Ally
I love this one because it’s Ally vowing herself to Jack, and describing their relationship so beautifully. It speaks to the artist in all of us, just trying to make something beautiful even if we aren’t sure how.
“Maybe she’s the way out…You know it’s like, I don’t know you float out, float out to sea and then one day you find a port. Say I’m gonna stay here for a few days. A few days becomes a few years. And then you forgot where you were going in the first place. And then you realize you don’t really give a sh*t about where you was going cause you like were you at.” -George
This film centers a lot around Jack’s struggle with alcoholism and drug addiction. This quote is from Jack’s friend George, when Jack shows up at his house after a gig in Memphis. He’s hoping that Ally is the way out for Jack, and that with her in his life he might be able to overcome the addictions that are plaguing him. Shortly after that, in the next scene, Jack asks Ally to marry him.
“I don’t know what love is, if I can’t have you here. I don’t know what love is, I think that it’s just fear.”-Ally
Ally sings this song at their wedding, and I think it’s one of the most beautiful songs from the film. She sings about love and how it’s tied to Jack for her. I really love the comparison of love to fear in this A Star is Born quote.
“If you don’t dig deep into your f*ing soul, you won’t have legs…you don’t tell the truth out there you’re f*d. All you got it is you and what you want to say to people and they are listening right now and they’re not going to be listening forever, trust me. So you gotta grab it, and you don’t apologize, you don’t worry about why they’re listening or how long they’re gonna be listening for, you just tell them what you wanna say. ‘Cause how you say it is the stuff of angels.” -Jack
Jack tells Ally this as they stare out over the city, a giant billboard of Ally in front of them. I think this is one of the most inspiring A Star is Born quotes. It’s a message for all of us: do everything from your soul. If you don’t have passion about something, don’t do it at all.
“Jack talked about how music is essentially twelve notes between any octave. Twelve notes and the octave repeats. It’s the same story told over and over, forever. All any artist can offer the world is how they see those twelve notes. That’s it. He loved how you see them.” -Bobby
After Jack dies, Bobby visits Ally and tells her this. They are both crying, and it’s a truly beautiful moment after such a shattering loss. Jack loved how Ally made music, simple as that. The emotions these lines conjure make it one of the best A Star is Born quotes.
“Don’t wanna feel another touch. Don’t wanna start another fire. Don’t wanna know another kiss. Baby, unless they are your lips. Don’t wanna give my heart away to another stranger. Don’t let another day begin. Won’t let the sunlight in. Oh, I’ll never love again. Never love again.” Ally, written by Jack
This whole scene makes me cry every time I see it, especially when they cut back in time to Jack singing it to Ally at their home. Jack wrote this song but it’s Ally who sings it in the final, heartbreaking scene of the movie. The power of their love is inspiring, to say the very least. This is the final scene, and so it’s the last, inspiring lines of A Star is Born quotes.
