I don’t know about you but I am a sucker for inspirational and motivational song. The smallest things can bring me down and I just need to hear something uplifting and everything is good again. Here are 10 inspirational songs that are sure to put you in a good mood.
Mandy Harvey is a singer and Ukulele player who lost her hearing in her late teens. Being suddenly Deaf she Thought she would have to give up music forever. But with encouragement from her family and friends she re-trained herself with muscle memory to keep singing and playing music and even writing new songs. This inspirational song TRY is one she took onto America’s got talent and it literally is about not giving up when you thought you had nowhere to go.
“I don’t feel the way I used to
The sky is grey much more than it is blue
But I know one day I’ll get through
And I’ll take my place again
So I will try “
ANYTHING by Grace Vanderwaal fall onto my list of inspirational songs. Clay would have been a great anthem for me growing up as that makes sense since Vanderwaal wrote it when she was 12. She also won America’s got talent with it. It is a inspirational song about a girl overcoming her competencies and learning how to be strong with whatever is thrown her way. I can still relate to it as an adult and I usually listen to it when I need a pick me up.
“I won’t live inside your world
‘Cause your punches and your names
All your jokes and stupid games
They don’t work
No, they don’t hurt
Watch them just go right through me
Because they mean nothing to me
Try to change my shape
But, baby, I’m not clay”
This inspirational song was actually written for the movie THE GREATEST SHOWMAN and while the soundtrack version is totally awesome, Pink just did a remastered version that is gorgeous. It is the anthem of every single one of us that has a dream and the passion behind it. The way Pink belts it out will make you wanna get going on whatever dream you are trying to accomplish.
“There’s a house we can build
Every room inside is filled
With things from far away
The special things I compile
Each one there to make you smile
On a rainy day”
This inspirational song was used in basketball and Pepsi ads as a motivational booster. It did just that. Gave you a burst of energy when you heard it, ready to go. It hit number 2 on the UK charts when came out in 2012. It is just as useful and positive as it was today.
“There ain’t no better time, I’m talking here and now, I’m talking here and now
Let’s go!
Right now is where you shine, I’m talking here and now, I’m talking here and now
It’s not about what you’ve done
It’s about what you doing
It’s all about where you going
No matter where you’ve been, let’s go!”
I’m putting in another inspirational song from THE GREATEST SHOWMAN. This one in particular deals with the Romeo and Juliet factor of two people who want to be together but knows or things society doesn’t allow it. So this anthem shares their hopes of finding a way to be together.
“How do we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine?
Nothing can keep us apart
‘Cause you are the one I was meant to find
It’s up to you
And it’s up to me
No one can say what we get to be
And why don’t we rewrite the stars?
Changing the world to be ours”
This inspirational song is a remastered song from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. Kelly Clarkson takes it to another powerful level. It starts out sad but has a hopeful ending about a family who lost something close to them that tore their family apart. It ends with new seeds being planted and learning and moving on.
“There are moments that the words don’t reach
There’s a grace too powerful to name
We push away what we can never understand
We push away the unimaginable
They are standing in the garden
Standing there side by side
She takes his hand
It’s quiet uptown”
This is one of Adele’s first hits early on and it is still one of my favorite pick me up inspirational songs. It has a great anthem and it talks about how if you keep going you might not be sure where you will end up, but if you give up right away you will definitely know the answer. It’s a great anthem song.
“Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere
Or would it be a waste?
Even if I knew my place should I leave it there?
Should I give up
Or should I just keep chasing pavements?
Even if it leads nowhere yeah”
This inspirational song is a slow beautiful anthem of staying strong to who you are and not hiding anything about yourself. With his gorgeous voice, Jordan Smith has a sweet range that gives such power to this anthem,
“Stand in the light and be seen as we are
Didn’t I tell you I hear what you say?
Never look back as you’re walking away
Carry the music, the memories and keep them inside
You
Laugh every day
Don’t stop those tears from falling down”
Lin-Manuel Miranda is the talk of the town. A composer who writes for theater and movies yes, (Hamilton, Moana and the upcoming Little Mermaid). But a brilliant composer in this modern music Era and here is one more inspirational reason why. He wrote this inspirational song for every child and person who has dreamed of being a strong life in the free world. This inspirational song is sung by two men to their new born children who are born around the same time the United States becomes a free country. Lin-Manuel also became a new father around the time this song was written so it has the power of truth behind it. Listen for yourself and tell me you’re not inspired.
“When you came into the world, you cried and it broke my heart
I’m dedicating every day to you
Domestic life was never quite my style
But when you smile
You knock me out, I fall apart
And I thought I was so smart
You will come of age with our young nation
We’ll bleed and fight for you, I’ll make it right for you
If we lay a strong enough foundation
We’ll pass it on to you, I’ll give the world to you”
I am drawn to musicals for inspirational songs and it makes sense as each one is tagged along with a powerful story. This song is written Benj Pasek and Justin Paul who are the same duo that wrote The Greatest Showman. This songs follows a lonely teenager with his cry for help. Not just for him, but everyone like him. In this song he is giving the student body their courage to speak up when they need something or someone.
“Even when the dark comes crashing through
When you need a friend to carry you
And when you’re broken on the ground
You will be found
So let the sun come streaming in
‘Cause you’ll reach up and you’ll rise again
Lift your head and look around
You will be found”
