You might know Laverne Cox for her role as Sophia Burset in the fantastic Orange is the New Black, however, she is not just known for her fantastic acting, but also her commitment to campaigning for equality, especially for trans people. Laverne is a regular user of the #TransIsBeautiful hashtag and as well as sharing her passion on Instagram for better equality and treatment for trans people, but she’s also a big advocate of body positivity and regularly posts on Instagram about loving yourself and your body. I think it would be safe to say that most people have likely heard of Cara Delevingne, but what many don’t realise that she does identify as a member of the LGTBQ+ community – in fact, rumour has it she is engaged to the one and only Ashley Benson from PLL. Adam’s Instagram is absolutely jam packed full of really important captions about the history of LGBTQ+ rights, existing issues, and how to continue fighting for LGBTQ+ rights in future. He is extremely passionate about these rights and his Instagram captions are always extremely factual and moving. Adam is also super passionate about body positivity and fighting for the rights of those that are less able – so if these are things that you’re passionate about too, you should definitely give him a follow.
Lead singer of Years & Years, Olly Alexander, has long used his platform to discuss LGBTQ+ related issues. Recently, a speech of his at Glastonbury 2019 went viral when he spoke out about how it is important to thank those who have fought for LGBTQ+ rights in the past and to continue doing their work as although we have made great progress, we still have a long way to go and mustn’t forget that.
