1. Goa, India
Just along India’s western coast, Goa is a small state that boardered by the Arabian Sea (clear, blue waters anyone?) and is separated into North and South Goa. You can fly directly in from New Delhi for about $50 each way, and, even better, almost every major city in North America flies into New Delhi — but flights from major cities like Chicago are really cheap through WOW Air.
On your trip, get ready to discover small, beautiful villages, flea markets, temples, and a crazy variety of cuisines. Pro-tip: try the farthest northern and southern beaches for more personal time. 2. Curacao
This island is in the southern part of the Caribbean, and is a hotspot for Canadian and European travellers. But, good news: there’s a lot of cheap flights for not only Canadians, but also through New York and Miami. Curacao is one of the best places for diving, and is a lot less expensive than Aruba. A great place to stay is the Scuba Lodge Ocean Suites if you’re looking for some diving. Otherwise, there’s a lot more modern hotels like the Hilton!
3. Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam
Accessible via short (and inexpensive) plane ride from Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon), this island is one of the most popular tourist island destinations in South East Asia. Although getting to South East Asia isn’t nescessarily cheap, there’s plenty of flights for around $800 from cities like Los Angeles to get you there. And once you are, everything else is cheap sailing. The island has some of the cheapest luxury hotels in Asia, and you don’t need a visa to get in. A great place to stay on the island is the Lahana Resort, which is beautiful and has really afforadable nightly rates.
4. Placencia, Belize
This small village isn’t easy to find — on the southeastern side of Belize, it’s about 160 miles away from Belize City, which makes it a little hard to get to, but you can take either a flight from the peninsula or a shuttle from the capital. But it’s a more secluded area, away from the most popular tourist destinations, which also means it’s way cheaper. You can find activities like snorkelling, diving, and fishing, and a lot of restaurants, shops, and bars that are all tourist friendly. The Beachfront Paradise Vacation Hotel is a great and affordable place to stay, with a lot of amenities like jacuzzis, kayaks, and apparently reliable wifi.
5. Guanacaste, Costa Rica
Known for being the number one best Costa Rican vacation destination, Guanacaste is home to some of the most beautiful sceneries in South America, and looks a little like an alien tropical paradise. Plus, the area is afforadable and safe (there’s plenty of family-friendly hotels and locations) and the hotels aren’t super expensive either! One of the best places to stay is the Sugar Beach Hotel, which has it’s own secluded beach.
6. Hawaii
We know, you’re looking at us weird. Yes, Hawaii can be one of the most expensive vacations in the world. But if you play your cards right, it can be really affordable. With flights that have been steadily inexpensive, you’re biggest problem would be on-the-ground costs, which can be avoided by staying at an affordable hotel right on a beach (to save transport money) and also opting for local poke joints versus expensive restaurants. Big Island resorts like Outrigger Royal Sea Cliff tend to have better prices than other hotels, or you can go for an Airbnb!
