Ikea Dates Are A Thing, Here’s Why You Should Go On One
The movie 500 Days of Summer introduced scads of love concepts to me, but one of the simpler ones was the endearing idea of adventuring on an Ikea Date. I love how it’s possible to enjoy another person’s company to an extent where even going to a furniture store together can make for the best date ever. Here are five ideas for how to go on your own Ikea Dates.
1. Make out in the ‘rooms’
It’s exhilarating to kiss in places you shouldn’t. Normally, showers, couches, and beds are completely protocol – except for when they don’t belong to you. Ikea has dozens of room setups with corners behind plastic walls that can house enough secrets for two. Sneak from display to display to avoid getting caught, and you’ll end up building even more desire.
2. Hide and seek throughout the store
Games for two aren’t easy to find, so play when you do. Take advantage of Ikea’s many floors and turns to slink easily around the store. Each area varies in level of visual occlusion from walls to furniture, allowing you to hide inside closets or behind duvets. The first person to get caught owes the other a frozen yogurt, an Ikea favorite for a surprisingly low price.
3. Eat Swedish meatballs
Ikea whisks the European getaway you and your significant other have always dreamed of based purely off of their Swedish meatballs. The meatball order comes with a special Lingonberry sauce, which combines the sweetness of the meat with a tart red unknown. The distinct flavor from this pairing is unattainable elsewhere, except maybe in Sweden.
4. Buy plants together
Practice nurturing your relationship by growing matching plants. Plenty of potted plants, including cacti, are sold at Ikea and are easily transportable because of their convenient size. Watch your plants blossom as the both of you do, into a memory that truly lives on.
5. Gauge your intimacy with this person
You’re probably dating because you wish to be a part of your significant other’s most private life. Our homes are where we allow our innermost selves to roam, and the comfort that such a setting provides is the reason we call it home in the first place. After an escapade through a store that’s intentionally designed to mimic that place, imagine if you’re comfortable trusting the person you’re with into that exclusive haven of your life.
