Imagine being able to get a once in a lifetime experience and meeting one of your favorite celebrities. Some girls, have the tendency to proclaim male celebrities as their boyfriend or even husband, I’m not going to lie, I was that girl when it came to Mark Wahlberg. The first ever movie I saw him was Shooter, I said: “Oh man he’s hot”. My stepmother said, “Yeah he is, Mark Wahlberg is beautiful ass man”. Ever since that day I’ve been a devoted fan to Mark Wahlberg.
Mark Wahlberg, grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. He had many talents that he indulged in from doing music, modeling to acting.
The iconic Calvin Klein campaign ad for men’s underwear that went viral. He was the center of attention, the most talked about during the early 1990’s revolving around fashion.
A beautiful celebrity, the Calvin Klein male model, body on point, street kid Mark Wahlberg.
My father always talked about Marky Mark growing up, he mentioned to me that they were best friends back in the day when they attended Lincoln Sudbury. Told me a bunch of stories of how they would ditch school, get into trouble, etc, etc.
One of Mark Wahlberg’s family members owns a sneaker shop off of Dorchester Ave, that he used to go frequently.
Ashmont Station, off of Glavain Bou, is the hot spot to meet up and catch up with old time friends. So it was a surprise to me because I never would have thought in a million years I would see Mark Wahlberg there.
I always had a big-time crush on Mark Wahlberg, so being able to finally meet him was a dream come true. How it all went down is coming…
My best friend and I at the time were driving from church going to get our nails down and I looked out the window and noticed him. I thought to myself is that really Mark Wahlberg or someone that looks like him.
He was interacting with a group of men circled in a corner and as we were driving past I was able to get a full look at his face. I knew it, I told my best friend and she whipped her car into a U-turn and drove back.
“Mark Wahlberg, Mark Wahlberg, Mark Walhberg” my friend literally said his name back to back to the point I had to tell her to shut up.
We made eye contact and asked him to wait because he was about to get in his car and he said ok. We jumped out the car and he talked to us for a while. I was completely star struck. All that was going through my mind was Mark Wahlberg is beautiful. Mark Wahlberg is in my neighborhood and I am about to meet him.
I didn’t know what to say and all I thought about was asking him if he remembered my dad but those words couldn’t come out. He asked me if I wanted a picture, all I could do was shake my head yes. I couldn’t believe I was interacting with the Mark Wahlberg.
After all was said and done, we departed our ways and my best friend and I started laughing. It crazy how we left church, on our way to the nail salon and then bam, we end up meeting Marky Mark aka Mark Wahlberg.
I text my parents and told them and my mother was so jealous. She was asking me 21 questions, the first thing she said to me was “Mark Wahlberg from Shooter, Contraband”, I said yes mom. She just laughed. When I got home she wanted to know in detail what happened.
My dad was curious to know if he remembered him and I told him I didn’t ask and he said: “Oh that’s okay, that’s cool though”. My dad was pretty butthurt, but it is, what it is. That day has been embedded in my memory every day after.
It doesn’t help that I keep the picture of us together as my wallpaper on my cellphone. Toni and her husband Mark Wahlberg. Cherish the moments that you make, keep the photos that you take and don’t erase them. Photos always can tell a story, whether it’s good or bad.
The picture that was taken with Mark Wahlberg in Ashmont in the city of Boston is one beautiful memory.
