Here’s my first point: there are many ways in how you can rediscover the city that you’re in. This is the city life, my friends.
The same thing is happening every single day. People are going to grab food at their favorite restaurant hot spot, people are going to the same stores to do their daily grocery (or clothes) shopping, and some people are stuck in their place of employment 24 hours, 7 days a week in order to please the needs of many customers. Everyone needs or wants something, but sometimes we need a little help just to reach our goals pertaining to our own personal needs and wants while rediscovering the city that we’re in. Then the goal is accomplished, and we feel satisfied with ourselves for getting that need or want (even if we have lobbied for it for a long time) – thus allowing you to find opportunities on how you can rediscover the city that you’re in.
Well, that’s a great question!
I pretty much know where I live inside and out, practically like a whole novel – thus allowing you to find ways on how you can rediscover the city that you’re in. ShopRite’s here, Dunkin Donuts is there, Walmart is a few miles away, Sam’s Club is right next to Walmart, Starbucks is across the street from both Walmart and Sam’s Club, Cold Stone Creamery is next to Panera Bread, Panera Bread is next to Cold Stone Creamery… the list drags on and on. It is basically so repetitive it’s not even funny. The same places appear in front of you over and over again. It is pretty rare that anyone is driving past a cute yet spunky 50s themed diner or a good old thrift shop full of ancient items. Everything is an adventure – that is the best part of rediscovering the city that you’re in. Just rediscovering yourself and who you are as a person before time flew by when you began to grow up.
Toad’s is the first thing you will think of when you are driving down the city of New Haven at night. Then you come across Vanity halfway through the drive, park at an empty parking lot and explore The Shops at Yale (not Yale University, mind you – even though they are in the same city and state). On a Friday or Saturday night, you will find many Quinnipiac students as well as students from other colleges in Connecticut exploring the glorious town that is called New Haven. Everything is happening all at once and it is very unpredictable as to what is going to happen next. But no one cares about that, and that’s because everyone else is too busy unleashing their “carefree” attitudes while having a good time at it.
There is really no life in the town that I lived in like it used to be way before this happened. However, we can only hope that this will all end soon. There is always a light at the end of the dark tunnel, they say – but where could that light be? No one really knows. We are stuck inside our homes all day, constantly bored out of our minds. We read a couple of pages of our book for 15 minutes of the day, we watch TV for 2 hours of the day, we watch a movie for 30 minutes of the day, and we take a nap for let’s say 6 hours of the day. We all know that there are 7 days in a week. We all know that there are only 24 hours in a day. So, the question is this: What do we even do with ourselves next? How will it all come out of it?
There are really no answers to questions like this as we continue to go through this thing called “life with the coronavirus” (and I’ll admit that it will make a really good mixtape).
Every moment passes by in a flash. One day you’ll look back and ask yourself, “Why didn’t I think of this earlier?” “Why didn’t I do this earlier?” “Why didn’t I discover this earlier?” These are the questions that are constantly running through our minds 24/7 whenever we decide to take the journey in order to see something new. We don’t really have any expectations nor have any clues as to what is going to happen during that time. We all just want to have fun with whatever we’re doing. Going back to the point that I made earlier about adventuring, no one cares if anything bad happens, because in some people’s minds that those bad moments end up becoming pretty funny in the end, thus making the best memories. But, good moments make the best memories as well. So why not have a little bit of both?
But that’s what New York City is for, right? Am I right or am I right? In a way, going to New York City redefines my goal and purpose in life: to continue performing on stage. Why should I stop doing what I love if my passion is going to grow even more? New York has everything I want – the hustle and bustle, every event that you always wanted to go too, cool experiences and opportunities for you to take a stab at… the possibilities are so endless as to what you want to do for the rest of your life.
The journey begins now – and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way – especially when you know how you can rediscover the city that you’re in – and live your city life to the fullest.
