How To Write An Essay Super Quick

So you’re wondering how to write an essay super quick? Maybe you stayed out too late last night or got distracted and dare I say…procrastinated? Never fear! Here you will learn tips on how to write an essay super quick.

1) Read, Read, Read The Prompt

It is very tempting to skim over the prompt and then jump into typing out words madly on your laptop. But don’t do it! The most important part of the essay (and your grade) is understanding the prompt. Give the people (well, professor) what they want! If you write about something unrelated, your professor will likely be irritated that he/she is reading your essay instead of watching Wheel of Fortune and fail you. You want to find out how to write an essay super quick, but you also want your hard work to produce that shiny 4.0. Read the prompt at least 3 times, and decide what your main paragraphs need to be about.

2) Do The Research (But Not Too Much)

Aim to find a couple more articles than the bare minimum requirement, but don’t get crazy now! If you research too much, then you will spend a lot of time citing all of the articles later in this process. The most effective way to do research is to use Ctrl+F or Command+F to find any keywords you are searching for in particular in an article. After finding a relevant section, read it before you write anything. If you try to write while you research, you run the risk of accidentally plagiarizing words or an idea from the source’s author.

3) Briefly Outline The Main Points

The most basic outline for an essay is an intro paragraph, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. Don’t fix what’s not broken! We are trying to unlock how to write an essay super quick! This format has worked for thousands of students before you, so if you’re in a hurry, don’t get creative now.  Write down the first sentence of each paragraph as your outline. This sentence should encompass all that the paragraph is going to cover, so don’t get super detailed. Try not to spend too much time on the outline because chances are, it’s going in the trash after you are finished with this paper. So it doesn’t have to be pretty!

4) Let Your Ideas Carry You Through

Now that you have the main idea for each paragraph and the research completed, it is time to allow yourself to write. I know it is going to be really difficult, but put away all distractions like your phone, food, or tv. Social media can wait to hear from you once you’re done acing your paper! If a distraction disrupts your thoughts, it can be difficult to get back into the writing flow. At this point, don’t worry about grammar mistakes, word usage, or spelling. It is inefficient to proofread and write at the same time so come back to any mistakes later.

5) Proofread And Format Your Essay

Now is the time to micro-analyze every word and comma if you so wish. If you aren’t that type of person (or you’re really low on time because The Bachelor comes on tonight!), then simply use a free spelling and grammar checker on Microsoft Word or online. You want to learn how to write an essay super quick, but not super full of mistakes. Pro tip: If you search for “free plagiarism checker”, there are also sites that will ensure you didn’t unintentionally copy from a source you may have read. At this point, you need to add in citations as well. Make sure that you put your paper in whichever format your professor requests. Don’t forget this step! Nothing gets you points off faster than putting your title in a hieroglyphics font or writing “The End” as your essay’s conclusion.
