Having a beard can require a little upkeep, but it can get messy. Too much shaving cream , little hairs everywhere, and you feel like you end up creating a mess that you’ll be cleaning up for days. If you feel like there has to be a better way, keep reading to learn how to trim your beard without getting those little hairs everywhere.
Ideally, start with shampooing and conditioning your beard. If you have never used a beard shampoo or conditioner before, try one like this:
If you just hopped out of the shower, wait until your beard is completely dry before trimming. When the beard is dry, you will be able to see how you want to style it more easily than if it were wet.
To prevent your hair from getting everywhere, tie a towel around your neck and drape the bottom of it into the sink. This way, the towel will catch everything instead of falling into the sink.
Take a brush and brush out your beard. If you have a longer beard, a good way to start the process is to brush against the length of your beard. This will help any stray hairs stick out.
A good tip on how to trim your beard is to start with a bigger guard on your clippers and start shaping your beard into whatever look you want. It is better to start bigger because if you go too short, you won’t be able to fix your mistake.
If you prefer scissors to trim, take a comb and brush your beard downwards. Use your scissors as a guide and cut along the opposite end of them as you go. Try these scissors, which are stainless steel and the perfect size for trimming.
Finally, to clean things up, trim up your neckline. The easiest way to do this is to go in with a razor. A good rule of thumb is to shave up to about your Adam’s apple, since you don’t want your beard to be too close to your jawline or too far down your neck.
