Humans are sexual creatures, but not everyone is on the same page when it comes to sex. Here are some tips on how to bring up sex (and anything related) with your partner to make the awkwardness of the conversation, well, a bit less awkward.
Just like with anything in a relationship, bringing up sex requires trust. Whether it’s a concern, preference, or complaint; you have to trust your partner in order to tell them anything of importance. Not only that, but if you trust your partner, than you can rest assured that they won’t judge you after you tell them.
If you’re really nervous to have this sex talk, it’s understandable that you would want to keep putting it off until the timing is right. Don’t do this. Your partner is with you for a reason, and it’s because you’re a great person. Being nervous is okay, procrastinating is not.
You don’t want to come to your s/o when they’re grumpy and try to have a serious conversation! Try to wait until they’re in a good mood, or even better, when they’re in a super good mood, since people are more likely to listen at these times.
Say what’s on your mind, answer any questions they may have, and remember to be kind, but serious. Prepare yourself for any reaction they might give you. For example, if you’re going to tell them, “Hey, I’m not so crazy about that thing you do… Yeah, that,” understand that they may be a little upset. Sex can be a touchy subject.
This is optional, but if you’re critiquing their sex skills, than you should probably finish off by saying something positive. I used to have a teacher that called this “The Sh*t Sandwich,” meaning that you start off good, fill in all the bad stuff in the middle, and end on a good note.
Congratulations, you got through it! Time to relax and breathe easy knowing that you and your partner are on the same page when it comes to sex!
