How To Study For Midterms And Still Have A Social Life

College is a once in a lifetime experience that you will never get back, so have fun, but also study for midterms, because you’re future is depending on it. We know first hand how hard it can be to balance your studies with your social life because usually, one gets the short end of the stick. If you are a college freshman, you must first know that high school exams have nothing on college exams, so this article is totally necessary.

I might be a college grad, but I still know what it’s like to be a college student. So here are some strategies that will help you study for midterms while maintaining a social existence.

Prepare For Exams Ahead of Time

There’s nothing more stressful than feeling like you don’t have enough time to study for midterms/exams. Personally, I would always prepare my notecards a week and a half before the scheduled exam, that way it would allow me to study while preparing. It doesn’t necessarily matter how you study, because I know think there really is a wrong way of studying, but it does matter when you start studying.

If you decide to start studying the day before the test, then you’ll most likely fail, unless you have a photographic memory (how nice would that be). This study format also allows you to have a social life and we know how important that is in college.

Attend Group Studies

In most college classes, a study group will be formed by either your classmates or professor. Whenever I attended group study sessions, I felt that I was doing everything in my power to succeed. If the professor is coordinating the study session, then they will most likely skim the surface of everything that was taught during the exam period.

When you are studying with your fellow classmates, they might coordinate it a little differently, so don’t be afraid to speak up, because they might be able to help you with whatever you are struggling with. This study method also allows you to socialize with people outside of your friend group.

Short Study Sessions

In order to survive your college years, you must first learn that breaks are highly necessary. Yes, we know how hard it can be to allow yourself a break, especially when you are on a role, but nonetheless, your brain will need some breathing room. When it comes to studying, it’s so easy to put a lot of pressure on yourself, and the last thing that you would want is to lose your sanity.

Short study sessions are important because forcing your brain to memorize a lot of information in one sitting will only backfire. So give yourself short study sessions. During a non-study session, you should go out and do something to relieve your mind from stress.

Make Friends in Class

Make friends in college while you can, because once you leave college, it’s hard to make friends in the real world. You never know when you might miss a day of class, so that why it’s imperative that you have at least one friend in class, that way they can fill you in on what you missed and vise versa.

Some people don’t like big groups, so maybe the group study session isn’t for you, but that doesn’t mean that you have to study alone. If you are lucky to have made a friend in class, then just meet up with them and study. It really is that easy, I think we just like to complicate things.

It really is possible to study for midterms while maintaining a social life? Anything is possible when you try hard enough! Let us know in the comments if you have any recommendations for us!
