How To Stay Motivated When Trying To Find Your Dream Job

So you’ve graduated, sent out hundreds of applications and have yet to actually start your career, well, it’s not as uncommon as you may think. Finding and starting your dream job is extremely difficult, especially if you are pursuing a field that isn’t in as high demand as tech or medicine.  But how do you stay motivated when you’re trying to find your dream job after you’ve sent out those hundreds of applications and are still waiting for the call that you’ve landed the job?

Remind yourself of why you’re doing this

We all need a well-paying job to get by in today’s world, there is no doubt about that. But if you went to college and graduated and are looking for that dream job, there’s probably a bigger reason behind why you’re doing this then the money. Try to remember and remind yourself every day of the passion you have for whatever it is that you were trying to do. If you stay focused and nurture your passion in the meantime, you will find success in the long run. And if you are motivated by the money, that’s fine too, use that as your why.

Keep your eyes on the prize

Cliché but it’s true. If you stay focused on what you want, you don’t give up and you just keep persisting on, you will get there. It may take time but it will work out the way that it meant to. You can’t rush the process because it exists for a reason. So while you’re on this journey to find your dream job, try learning new skills that will help you with your future career. Working towards the goal of your dream job will help you stay motivated because each day you will know that you are that much closer to achieving it.

Take some time for you

Trying to find a job is a full-time job in itself. It can get tiring, redundant, and depressing after a while. That’s why it’s important to take some time off every once in a while and do something that makes you feel at ease and happy. Don’t stop applying for jobs completely, but take a break at specific intervals that you set, that work for you.  Maybe the first weekend of every month you take time for yourself,  don’t apply to jobs and don’t think about your job search, and just enjoy the time that you have. Or maybe you make it after you’ve applied to 50 jobs or 100 jobs, or have worked for 50 hours trying to find said job. Whatever works for you, do it. It’s important to take time off to keep your mind from resenting the process.  It’s hard to stay motivated when you don’t give yourself a time to enjoy life and never take a break from working.

Most importantly: don’t let yourself give up

You can keep at it for months on end, or take breaks and focus on living for a weekend and enjoying life, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you do in order to feel and stay motivated, what does matter is that you don’t give up. You will not succeed if you do not try.  The only way that you will start the career of your dreams is if you keep trying and you remind yourself every day that it will be worth it in the end.

Trying to find a job is exhausting, so it’s important to take the steps needed to stay motivated and see it through. Do you have any other tips on how to stay motivated? What motivational tips did you or are you taking now to start your career? Let us know in the comments.
