The summer sun always seems like a good idea – beach days, picnics, amusement parks, long drives with friends – until you start to feel not so fresh in the summer heat. You may leave the house after showering, styling your hair, and doing your makeup, but by the afternoon, your hair is sticking to the back of your neck and your makeup is definitely running down your face.
But how can you prevent this from happening? Here are a few things you can try to stay fresh during a day in the sun:
No matter how hard it is to avoid picking up your curling iron, throwing some voluminous curls in your hair, and spraying on hairspray until the can runs out, I suggest you give it a try anyways! There are tons of cute ways to style your hair in the summer that will help keep your hair off of your neck and face. This will prevent you from overheating and help you stay fresh longer while in the heat.
This applies to both the fabric you choose to wear as well as the color. Darker colors attract and absorb sunlight, causing you to heat up faster than you would if you were to wear colors like white or light pastels. And although that wool tank top looks adorable on you, it may not be smart to wear it out in the sun as the fabric will definitely make you sweat. Stay fresh by wearing lighter fabrics like silk or cotton.
No matter how obvious this may be, people simply do not drink enough water. In fact, about 75% of all Americans are dehydrated, and you may be one of them! Not only will drinking enough water while out in the sun keep you healthy, but it will keep you cool as well, helping you stay fresh longer while you are out in the sun. Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go!
When you are on the go, sometimes it can be hard to find a bathroom to wash off. Your second best option? Baby wipes! Refresh yourself by wiping your face, arms, hands, and chest with cool baby wipes to give yourself the clean feeling that you need. Blotting papers help collect the sweat and oil that has built up on your face while out in the sun and wipe away moisture without taking your makeup off with it!
A full face of makeup, when you are going to be out in the sun all day long, is probably not the best idea. You are likely to sweat beneath the makeup you apply, causing it to run or cake on your face. For refreshing makeup alternatives, try a tinted SPF sunscreen, a light mascara, and lipgloss for that fresh, natural look!
One of the worst feelings in the world is remembering that you forgot to put deodorant on before a day in the sun. To prepare yourself for the heat, pack travel sized products like deodorant and dry shampoo in your bag with you for on-the-go coverage and protection. Not only will these products help you stay fresh, but they will make you smell nice, too!
Eating cool, fresh fruit will not only help you stay cool in the summer heat, but the water and vitamins that the fruit provide will hydrate you and give you the energy that you need to remain in the sun all day. Plus, fruit is super tasty in the summertime!
