Be honest, how many times have you over packed or had to completely empty out your suitcase to find something while you’re traveling? I actually hate having to take things out of my suitcase if I don’t need to because I’m always nervous that I might forget something. Luckily, there are some simple tips and tricks so whether you travel all the time or just want to pack your suitcase more efficiently, you’ll want to know these packing tips.
I’m sure if you’re reading this article that you have heard of packing cubes – and if not, then let me help change the way you pack your suitcase forever. Packing cubes make keeping your suitcase organized super easy. You can find packing cubes on Amazon, and they come in multiple sizes so you’ll be able to organize your things accordingly.
Packing cubes make it easy to keep your clothes, shoes, products, electronics, and whatever else you may want to bring with you. If you don’t want to buy packing cubes, an easy alternative is ziplock bags. This is what I did when I went on my first big trip and it kept my suitcase so well organized that I didn’t have to think about much when I was getting ready. I labeled my outfits by the specific plans we made so I could just grab and go.
Plus, storing your toiletries in zip lock bags will prevent huge messes if any spill or leak.
Rolling your clothes takes up less space than folding and it makes it super easy to see all of the items you’ve packed at a glance (if they aren’t too cramped in your suitcase). So if you’re going on a longer trip, or really can’t decide on what outfits to bring, roll your clothes!
I roll mine by first vertically folding in any sleeves and then rolling.
There are a few tricks you can use when packing your toiletries. If you’re using travel-sized items, place them in a toiletry bag or ziplock bag to keep any spills away from your clothes.
To help prevent any spills, untwist the tops of every bottle and place saran wrap between the bottle and the lid. When you screw the lid back on, the saran wrap acts as a make-shift seal and will prevent any messes.
If I’m being honest, I typically just seal all of my products in a ziplock bag or TSA approved clear bag. I haven’t had an issue with items leaking, but if you have or just want to be extra cautious, definitely use the saran wrap hack – I know so many people who swear by that hack.
This one is more frugal than the rest, but you don’t want to waste your money because your suitcase is over the weight limit.
One thing I do to ensure that I have enough space in my suitcase and don’t go over the weight limit is pack the majority of my items in the carry-on size suitcase and once I know everything except the shoes I want to bring fit in there, I transfer all of the items into my larger suitcase.
By doing this, and utilizing packing cubes or Ziploc bags, it will be easy not to overpack and stay under the weight limit.
I also always bring one extra set of clothes in my carry-on bag and save space in there for any souvenirs I want to bring back.
