If you’re anything like me, you don’t look at crafting like a struggle– you rather enjoy it. However, I’ve found that many people find being crafty as a task. If you’re in a sorority, you know the real struggle of crafting 24/7. Bid day, recruitment, big/little reveal, and every other project in between. The most things you’ll probably decorate and craft while being in a sorority are of course, your letters (surprise, surprise).
It’s not hard to find a cute idea for sorority letters with Pinterest. The problem becomes executing that, and wondering how they will turn out. Will it actually look like the picture? Questionable. Lucky for you, I’ve crafted my way through my sorority, and I’ve learned to perfect my DIY skills. Here are some simple steps for you to follow to create the cutest wooden sorority letters.
Sounds super obvious, but it’s overlooked! Nothing ever looks good rushed. Your hair, your makeup, your outfit–neither will your letters! If you have to glue on little rhinestones to one of the letters, that will probably take you a few days. Plus, waiting for paint to dry or whatever else it may be. My point being, make sure you leave yourself enough time to get them done so you’re not rushing.
Even if you’re not gluing anything to your letters right away, you never know what you might need it for (trust me, at some point you’ll need one). If you think your letters need a little extra something to finish them off, you’ll be annoyed when you don’t have the right things to execute that. Besides, it’s always nice to have a little dimension to your letters (this is what will make them pop).
Similar to what I said above, don’t make your letters exactly the same. No matter how big or how small the letters are, they look WAY cuter when they have some cohesiveness. Make one have some rhinestones, or something with dimension and texture. Even if you do decide to just use paint or glitter, make them different!
Your inspiration will probably come from Pinterest when you’re doing your letters, but adding your own touches makes it that much more fun to craft them.
While I’m an advocate for going big or going home and pushing yourself, don’t start something you don’t feel confident you will achieve correctly. Some people are literal artists and craft a lot–and I mean a lot. If you see pictures of sorority letters on Pinterest that look too good to be true, they probably are! Especially if you have a time constraint, it’s best to not push yourself with something unrealistic–just do what you can!
On that note, you don’t always have to get inspiration from Pinterest. Think outside the box–what could look super cool on sorority letters? Go to the craft store and walk up and down the aisles and see what you can find. Look inside junk drawers in your house. Go to thrift stores. You can literally put anything on them and make them so different. Who knows, maybe your letters will end up on someone else’s Pinterest board.
Nothing is to say you have to be a master crafter in order to make sorority letters that are cute AF. It’s all about knowing tips, and of course the more times you craft, the better you’ll be at it.
