How To Keep Yourself Entertained When You’re Stuck Inside All Day
The coronavirus is here and it plans to be sticking around for quite a long time.
So, we must keep ourselves entertained inside all day.
You’re either out of school or of work, and suddenly you have nothing to do. Of course, you can get bored very easily.
But how do you keep yourself entertained when you’re stuck inside all day?
I first had that question too.
I walked around the house a lot more than I really should because I was so bored. I was used to being at school the majority of the time and always being so active and busy. However, as time went on I discovered plenty of things that I can do to entertain myself when I am inside all day. Here are some ways to keep yourself entertained when you’re stuck inside all day.
However, just became I am home 24 hours, 7 days a week does not mean school is canceled. I still have to go to school!
However, this time around I am taking all of my classes online as opposed to taking them on campus, in which I have usually done in the past. I meet with my teachers and advisers via the computer app Zoom in order to achieve this goal. I still have to take notes for class, write papers, take tests and quizzes, and do homework assignments. Along with that, I have to adhere to turning in all of my homework assignments on time. It has not been so bad thus far, but I do miss sleeping in (as does everyone else). This is one way that I keep myself entertained when I am stuck inside all day.
When I am all done with my homework (or decide to procrastinate on it because sometimes I like a break time and time again), I have found activities that I can do in my own home while practicing social distancing guidelines and trying to avoid getting the coronavirus. For many people who really have not met me personally yet, I am a big avid reader.
I love reading all types of books, and Barnes and Noble is usually my go to in order to pick up my next read. Immerse yourself and get lost in the story that you are reading. Plus, it has also been found as a good way to destress and to keep yourself entertained when you’re inside all day. Get lost in the character’s journey through success and triumph. Learn more about their journey. For example, I am currently reading “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” by Ken Kesey for my abnormal psychology class. I just started reading the book and I am already enjoying being taken on a journey through the character’s life and what they go through in order to achieve triumph and success. If you are not so much a book person, you can also read a magazine – either way, you can very easily get lost in the material. This is another way that I keep myself entertained when I am stuck inside all day.
However, if you are someone who does not like putting their face in front of a book or a magazine every single day, staying home provides the perfect opportunity for me to lay on my bed and watch some good old television.
By having Netflix, Amazon Prime, TiVo, and Disney Plus on my television, I have access to a variety of programs that I can watch when I just feel like hanging out with my cat on my bed. Plus, it has also been found as a good way to destress and to keep yourself entertained when you’re inside all day. Some television shows that I enjoy watching are Judge Judy (her no nonsense attitude always cracks me up and I like how she sasses her litigants), New Girl (the dynamic of the ensemble cast is picture – perfect and I could honestly binge watch that show all day long if I wanted to), American Housewife (me and my mom watch this show together and we laugh out loud every time at the dialogue and the dynamic between the characters), and Riverdale (I love how there is a mystery element to the show, and Betty and Jughead are the textbook definition of relationship goals, no one else can argue with me on this or tell me otherwise). This is a third way that I keep myself entertained when I am stuck inside all day.
The best part of it all is that I get to spend a lot more time with my family.
Now, my mom still has to go to work almost every day since she is kind of like a babysitter/aide to her friend’s young children (in which one of them is diagnosed with autism), so I sometimes get concerned about if she is going to be in direct contact with the virus or not. Luckily, my worries subside because I keep myself occupied with homework more often (not what I would imagine myself to be doing almost the majority of every single day, but a college student’s got to do what a college student’s got to do, am I right or am I right?) and she comes home every night with lots of stories to tell about her day at her job. Plus, spending time with my family has also been found as a good way to destress and to keep yourself entertained when you’re inside all day I even gave the children coloring sheets to keep themselves occupied with when they get bored during the day, when they need a break from schoolwork/homework, or when they’re done with schoolwork/homework for the day or for the week, it totally gave them something to not only lift both of their spirits, but to end their days on a high note. This is a fourth way that I keep myself entertained when I am stuck inside all day.
Also, to those who already may not know a lot of things about me, I am still keeping up with my performance training when I am not on stage or in the classroom.
I am still practicing how to sing properly, have been given more time to dance my heart out after coming out of what I like to call my “dance retirement” after 9.5 years of training at a dance studio in my hometown and not training as much as I have used to for the past 3 years. Plus, it has also been found as a good way to destress and to keep yourself entertained when you’re inside all day. Luckily, I have been given a chance to take a dance class as part of my theatre major credit and we get to create a dance choreography routine for one of our homework assignments (I will be doing a contemporary dance to the song “Wicked Little Town” from the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” as part of my homework assignment, contemporary is my favorite style of dance because I can include technique while being able to tell a story – and this song is perfect to the situation that is going on right now, thus the nation is turning into a “Wicked Little Town”). This is a fifth way that I keep myself entertained when I am stuck inside all day.
However, I will say that I desperately would want for this virus to go away ASAP.
To be honest with you, I truly miss walking on the very beautiful Quinnipiac University campus and putting on a friendly face while saying hello to everyone I know and hanging out with my friends from home while shopping at the mall or going out to eat at one of our favorite restaurants. I miss going down to the city to go see a Broadway show and meeting the cast – it’s all a part of going on adventures in New York City. I really wish how things used to be before this coronavirus came around. I’m lucky to text and Facetime my friends when they’re in different locations (Plus, it has also been found as a good way to destress and to keep yourself entertained when you’re inside all day). Also, I am in my junior year in college – I just hope everything can return back to normal very soon (even though we cannot predict the future). This is the sixth way that I keep myself entertained when I am stuck inside all day.
That’s all we can hope, wish, and ask for, right?
We shall see about that. But for now, we must keep ourselves entertained inside all day until it is clear and safe to go out again.
